I'm gearing up to paint my Neo-Soviet force over the next few weeks and that got me wondering. Who else is building up one too? And how big are you going with your reds?

My force is going to be a foil to my USCM company which currently has two, two section (10 men each), platoons with M577 APCs (4 total) and two wheeled tank destroyers.

I'm currently assembling a full platoon of Khurasan neo-Soviets (the platoon package), two tank/apc carriers, one MBT (Khurasan too), and two Vor era Ursa Mechs. That's about 50 infantry (complete with support weapons), three AFVs (one MBT), and two walkers. That should be enough to make my Jarheads nervous… after all, they've only had to contend with LRL "regulars" and insurgents! They've never faced a first rate enemy in the field before.

I think that'll shake thing up a bit. I might expand out to a full platoon of carriers and a platoon of tanks in the future just to fully mechanize my troops.

So where are you going with your Neo-Soviets???

All of mine have the new Invisibility Cloaks, and I have lost them somewhere!
I really haven't given much thought to doing more Sci-Fi.

Its on my list of to do forces, for a futer wars back of beyond type of scenario, lots of run down mining instilations and power plants, decaying city apartments etc.

Troops are going to be these guys

They have a blake seven federation feel to them, somewhat sinister and spot on for interior ministry security forces.Khurusan minis

Spetnaz/ NKDD

These are by armies army and coming out shortly.

APC transport is going to be via CMG.

Walker/ Mech's will be by Micropanzer

All in all they have a nice clunky retro sci fi feel to them, just as Ivan should be, and as you say, something of a threat to Uncle Sam.

I like those Micropanzers! I'll have to look at them myself. Here's what I'm thinking about:

picture

I have two of these. One is armed like the mech in this picture while the other has a mortar in place of the cannon. They are very nice and clunky/chunky mecha and they look great with 15mm. It's just the price tag that would keep me from building a full "platoon" of 3-4 mecha. Especially since my next planned purchase is to get another Ares for my Americans, and three more Khursasan vehicles, some Khurasan SAW gunners for my LRLs,and I need two or three Merka tanks from Rebel Mike for my Americans, …, …, and on…! LOL!

If these Micropanzers are fairly cheap I might grab a couple.

Forgot to add, VTOL/ Ground attack duties will be undertaken by this wee beastie, hopefully arriving from Khurusan in the not too distant future……..absolutely gorgeous :-)

My force, which will have a neo-sov/easternbloc feel are from Oddzial Osmy – Three squads of eight (four slug rifles, 2 plasma rifles, a SAW and a light anti-vehicle rocket), plus a platoon command of officer, medic, ATGM and a comms specialist with drone (the drone from GZG).

All of these will be loaded up in four Antenociti Kabardin APCs.

Have all but the vehicles. Just need to get them into the painting queue!

Oooooh… that's a shiney APC! The pseudo-BTR to complement my pseudo-BMPs! Heck, those sharp looking apcs make my USCM M577s look like ancient clunckers!

I just googled this vehicle and pulled up this picture:

This is the 28mm kit and it's the anti-tank version. Now that is sweet!

Here's a great review of the 15mm kit:

and a very nice pic of it with Khurasan Federal Troops:

Apparently this model it out in both scales. Looks really sharp. I think I'll grab a couple of these as standard APCs for my Soviets.

Planning on using O8's NVL troops with Khurasan and Antenociti vehicles as well.

AT43 walkers and spetznaz from the red block army are superb mechs for neo sovs.

So far, just a platoon pack from Khurasan backed up by a single "Darling Little" robot from the same line. I magnetized all the parts on the robot though so I can swap her weapons, create mixed weapons packages AND rotate the turret.

How did you do that Wolf?

Basically you get tiny rare earth magnets (like 1/8, 1/16 of an inch or even 1/32-- generally the largest size that will fit) and a pine vise with the same size drill bit. You drill the holes just deep enough for the magnets to sit flush and glue them in place. Make sure the polarity of the magnets line up or the parts will repel rather than stick.

Some people like to sink them ever so slightly deeper than the surface and putty over the whole with a super thin layer of putty.

Other people like using one magnet and then some metal on the other piece.

At the moment, my 15mm Neo-Soviets are still under construction, but I'm looking at WWII SMG Soviets for my conscript troops, the Combat Wombat 8x8 AGS sans turret as their default ride, and a CAV Centurion as the newest prototype from the glorious workshops of the Revolution. Haven't come up with elites or MBTs yet.

wminsing19 Mar 2012 5:51 a.m. PST

My 15mm Neo-Soviets are still a twinkle in my eye, but the plan(tm) is:

Khurasan for infantry, platoon package.

Khurasan for MBT's I'll probably assemble them as older models to represent the integrated tank units in a Mechanized unit. I'll likely also get a couple of the robots.

Old Crow Claymore APC's for transport; 8-wheeled and big enough to cram in the default Khurasan 14-man squads.

Good question, I sort of forgot now. I'll have to buy another one in my next order and do a tutorial to post up here as I figure it out again. I can tell you now though, it involved some small magnets.
