Well, I decided to just plain ole' go for it and I went and proposed my mad idea and it looks like Wargames Factory approved my lunatic Liberty & Union League proposal for 28mm Chinese Warlord troops in plastic:

link

My idea is for multi-part figures with enough weapons and head options to equip several styles of troops common to this period. This would mean Mauser rifles, Chinese Dao and Dadao broadswords for "Dare to Die" and "Big Sword" troops, plus potato masher grenades and Mauser pistols for the aforementioned assault troops or officers. Space permitting, an MP 18/20 SMG and/or a Madsen light machine gun would also be included (I regard the Madsen as almost a mandatory weapon for Warlord troops from this period).

So there it is gang. If enough people sign on, WF will make 'em in plastic.

Personally, I think that these troops would be very handy for fielding everything from Pulp Fiction villainous hordes of minions or mercenaries to Warlord Era troops to KMT troops for battling the Japanese invaders 1931-45, to science fiction human troops with a Far Eastern theme (just add laser rifles).

Between the wars troops in 28mm plastic? Sounds great to me! I hope that the line is successful. :-)

I admire your zeal and optimism if not your grasp on reality.

Eh, it's a pretty good scheme, honestly: they ask people to commit to buying x number of boxes at $19.95 USD each, with no money down, and if enough people do, they go ahead and make the thing.

I for one would be kinda interested in this. It'd make for an extremely interesting-looking Imperial Guard Army, if nothing else.

Philippine Constabulary ski troops will not doubt be next.

Two boxes ordered – hope we reach the total

I just put in for 3 boxes. Will they really have Madsen LMG and MP18?

500 boxes is pretty extreme, however. $10,000. USD

Only 495 to go …

Bowman18 Mar 2012 4:13 p.m. PST

Just ordered 3 to fight the Japanese in Manchuria.

The Shadow18 Mar 2012 5:52 p.m. PST

Shouldn't we at least see some prototypes before ordering?

Shadow,

here's how the Liberty & Union League works:

So it's not quite the same thing as a manufacturer announcing they will release thus and so. This is an opportunity for individual hobbyists to submit their ideas and see if there's enough interest out there for the proposal to be a viable venture as far as the manufacturer is concerned.

So I say go for it, 'cause ya never know…evil grin

Here's the discussion thread on the WF forum:

I've posted assorted photos and color plate reconstructions as to where I'd suggest we take this proposal.

Best of luck, Leland. I love the period but I already have a load of 15mm PeterPig figs painted as Warlord Chinese so Im not doing it again in another scale.

The WF forum link has a wide range of Chinese soldiers from the early teens through the forties. Might be useful to focus on 1920s or 1940s. Certainly a few cross-overs would fit in both decades, but not many. I'd be far more interested in the box had all 1920s types.

BlackWidowPilot Fezian23 Jun 2012 11:46 p.m. PST

Considering the uniform changes were primarily in terms of head gear AFAIK, perhaps by providing a sufficient number of different head options this could be achieved.

My original thought was primarily for 1920s troops, however I didn't rule out their potential utility for early "War of National Resistance" KMT troops as well…

Copplestone's range is hard to beat in terms of quality, and has the added advantage of being available now. I've bought them entirely from eBay for next to nix, in case you're looking for some right now.

BlackWidowPilot Fezian02 Jul 2012 6:30 p.m. PST

Mc,

I've a decent cadre of Copplestone CCW figures already, but I too watch EBay every now and again, just in case…

If they did do these in plastics, I would be able to pursue (1) truly large scale battles, and (2) some fun sci-fi and pulp fiction projects as well…evil grin

Ah well, hope springs eternal…evil grin
