Rigo gives this

picture

Moullard however give a different array od colours, the red / white wavy stripes top and bottom and blue / white at the sides, rigo goes the other way – any ideas would is more likley of 1780?

clibinarium17 Mar 2012 6:12 a.m. PST

Aren't they the same, both have red/white at the top and blue/white at the sides. Rigo has turned the flag on its side to fit it on the page which is a bit misleading.

Kronoskaf.com lists the ordonnance flag with wavy red and blue bands as of 1771, according to the painting by Chaligny.

Drapeau Colonel, not King's Flag, to be pedantic.

John the OFM17 Mar 2012 8:01 p.m. PST

I called it he King's Drapeau so I could skate on Error. I FORGOT what it was really called! grin

Huh?????

I see five different flags on the page. Which ones are the same?

clibinarium18 Mar 2012 6:21 p.m. PST

Just Royal Deux Ponts; Rigo is the plate in the 1st post, Moulliard is this one

picture

The confusion arose because the in the Rigo plate the flag is turned on its side to fit into the available space.

The sideways crown in the centre of the Rigo flag would've been interesting!!!!

von Winterfeldt18 Mar 2012 11:59 p.m. PST

the crown is not sideways – I was trapped by that illlustration because it is sideways in contrast to the rest of the colour, Clibinarium did spot this well, so tp say – spot on.

Arteis20 Mar 2012 1:48 a.m. PST

I know it is not sideways, vW. I was just amused at you initially noticing the apparent inconsistency with the wavy stripes, but entirely missing the much more obvious 'sideways' crown ;-)

But I'm not the most observant person in the world, either, so I really can't talk …
