A week or so back Jon at Khurasan posted a long list of new miniatures, and among these were the "Government Forces" for his 15mm Post-Apocalyptic line. I had not seen any previews of these guys previously, but found them VERY interesting and ordered several packs. Well, they appeared in the mail today and I must say these are some of my very favorite 15mm Power Armor. The miniatures are nice and big, making them standout from most other 15mm figures and making them look like "power armored" troopers. They look very menacing with a design that could easily be used for "Space Marines" or Brotherhood from Fallout. The guns are big and in your face and the backpacks on them are just the right size without being "too" big like many of them on 40K Marines.

I only have two complaints. First, that I did not order more of them. Second, that they don't yet have more than one pack. Not sure they really need a lot of heavy weapons since the current guns are big enough now that they all could be carrying heavy weapons, but some variety would be nice.

More excellent work from the endless string of new releases from Khurasan. Great work Jon!

(Oh, the Huntarr are definitely nice as well, but you will just have to order some . . . . )

Here are a couple of pictures with some Khurasan, Rebel, GZG and Blue Moon miniatures so you can see the size of the "Government Forces".

They look great. What was used for the miniatures bases in the comparison pic?

JRacel16 Mar 2012 8:02 p.m. PST

I use 3/4 metal fender washers most of the time since they are cheap and magnetic. A few minis were on pennies and I added Litko Flexsteel bases to those so they would be magnetic. The Blue Moon figures are on smaller washers, but they have these strange dome bases that make them look taller than they are . . . .

I lost my Hard Drive so I lost the address to your size ref Jeff. Thanks for this timely post. Shame those figures in the last two photos don't have your usual ID tags.

Back on topic, those Khurasan Govm't Forces, they do make nice big chunky troopers don't they?

JRacel16 Mar 2012 8:28 p.m. PST

LordNth,

I was going to do the tags, but I cleaned up the basement a few weeks back and have not yet figured out in what "safe and reasonable" place I put the box of tags. It was not worth printing and cutting out more this evening.

You didn't have to do that Jeff. I just search though your pictures for a little bit to find the answers. :)

My biggest bitch is whether they should be either Enclave or Brotherhood when painting them…

Wolfprophet16 Mar 2012 9:04 p.m. PST

I like 'em. Just need an excuse to start another force before I buy any! Too much to paint now as it is and still expecting some reinforcements from Khurasan to flesh out 2 of my current projects and completely finish off a 3rd one.

I just got them too, I also think they are my new favorite miniatures. I need more.

1905Adventure16 Mar 2012 11:08 p.m. PST

Amazing. I thought they were cool, but I never thought they'd be such a perfect size for power armour in 15mm. I figured they'd be quite a bit smaller.

Kev134017 Mar 2012 1:52 a.m. PST

I just received mine and they are excellent! Good size for Powered Armour, well detailed, and really clean castings.

Hopefully Jon will expand the range.

Cheers,

Kev

My son took a look at these and pronounced "Hey, those could be Space Marines!" I think he's right (in a good way), they're the the closest thing out there, and they could be the ticket to weaning him (and my hobby budget) off of GW. I would love to see some really heavy weapons and some colorful command figures! They don't have to be over-the-top space knights, just big and bad on the same theme.

Cheers,

Christopher

I think I'll get these to reinforce this unit…

I think these guys will look pretty damn good next to the WildCAT droids from Rebel minis.

Chef Lackey Rich Fezian17 Mar 2012 4:28 a.m. PST

Good to see a size comparison, especially with the Khurasan Federal not-SST power armor. Single piece castings on the "Government" figs, I assume?

Some of those other scale figs look oddly familiar. :)

El Wombato17 Mar 2012 5:52 a.m. PST

Your complaints are retarded.

JRacel17 Mar 2012 6:00 a.m. PST

@Eclipsing Binaries,

I think you're right. The Rebel CATs have some similar design elements and would make nice very heavy support. Just keep in mind that the CATs are machines and not power armor.

@Chief Lackey Rich,

The figures are all one piece castings, so no arms etc to attach. Yes, Rich, there are a few examples of your excellent brush work in the pictures!

When I first say them, I too thought these would be the go-to version of 15mm Space Marines. And no doubt if they sell well, we'll get more add-on packs.

Chef Lackey Rich Fezian17 Mar 2012 7:02 a.m. PST

They're certainly good competition for the Blue Moon Orion Heavy Infantry not-Marine figs. Nice to have a couple of good options to choose from, style-wise. We get a few more types on the market (a beakie, maybe?) and you could do one of those wacky squads with a mix of different generations of armor.

Eclipsing Binaries17 Mar 2012 8:07 a.m. PST

@JRacel
I know the CATS are machines and wouldn't work as powerarmour, but look at it the other way. The Government Forces could very easily be machines as well, and then they would fit in very well (and they do have quite small helmets for a human whose body fits the rest of that armour).

JRacel17 Mar 2012 8:19 a.m. PST

@Eclipsing Binaries

I was not sure if you had seen the CATs in person and just wanted to make sure you were aware they were machines. :)

Yes, you are also right about the helmets, but that is true for almost every 15mm figure I own. I don't think very many have helmets that are really big enough to have a head inside of it. grin

Jeff

khurasanminiatures17 Mar 2012 8:54 a.m. PST

(and they do have quite small helmets for a human whose body fits the rest of that armour).

Actually the human head tends to remain remarkably similar in size as bodies get bigger or smaller. This is one way to create a perception of height, to give a model a smaller head in proportion to its length.

Anyway, glad folks like the models! They are quite definitely not designed to be not-you-know-what. They are more based on a popular post-apocalyptic story, if you get my drift. That is why they have a bit of a ramshackle appearance and why they do not have American football shoulder pads or jet nozzle backpacks. So when the line is expanded (and yes, it will be), think less along the lines of gothic sci fi and more along the lines of puritan elitists in underground bunkers!

Jury is still out on whether these will do well, the sales have been so-so so far. But I will definitely make more, it will just take a while. Ben is a very busy sculptor and his time alloted to me right now is devoted to making more models for the Felids, which is a line I know people like! He's making a light field piece crew -- the gunner and spotter for a platform weapon that can be either a double barreled heavy autocannon or a heavy mortar. This platform can either be mounted on a cruciform base or on the hull of a light tracked gun/utility carriage called a Mako.

The Control, Resistance, JTFB, Satrapal Levies and the Karks are also getting crews made for the same gun/vehicle system. It's like the sci fi equivalent of the Bofors gun -- so damn good the only reason you wouldn't use it is for political considerations (so the Federal forces and Nova Respublik don't use it).

The first ones to be completed were the crews for the Control Battalion and Resistance and those are at the casters. The Kark, JTFB, and Satrapal crews are made and on their way to me. The Felid is the last one and is still being made, though I know the seated gunner is made as I've seen a photo.

Kev134017 Mar 2012 9:17 a.m. PST

Jon, I suspect some people may not be noticing the Gov powered armour troops under the post apoc category I certainly looked for them in the sci-fi section first, and i would have expected them to be good sellers!

I'll be ordering some more soon, but as usual it's a little at a time.

Cheers,

Kev

DinOfBattle217 Mar 2012 10:05 a.m. PST

I concur with Kev. I had a hard time finding them. Thought they would be under Sci-Fi.

Classic BSG, here I come!

Stealth100017 Mar 2012 1:18 p.m. PST

They look like my power armour go to guys. I looked and could not find them too. Jon can I say I think you need to list them in Sci-fi too or you will be missing a lot of sales.

AWuuuu17 Mar 2012 2:01 p.m. PST

I like multi part Khurasan Power armors more, but they are very nice proposition when i will be considering PA for my second faction.

Any chance for more Felid PA ?

Little Big Wars17 Mar 2012 3:58 p.m. PST

They'll go well with my Dead Boys too…

infojunky17 Mar 2012 5:17 p.m. PST

I will be ordering as soon as I get out of the mid-month check void…. My early month allowance went toward getting the frames on my glasses fixed….

SpaceJacker17 Mar 2012 5:49 p.m. PST

I love 'em and am eagerly awaiting my packet!

CATenWolde18 Mar 2012 8:39 a.m. PST

About relative amount of sales and so on, basically if there is a single pack I'll order a single pack for a unique unit, but if there are command and weapon options then I'll field at least a platoon.

I love the fact You work on new Felids! Finally! :D One question: since JTFB Felid seems a little bit different then other Felids, will the new Felids will be sculpted by the same sculptor? Nothing wrong with changes, just curiosity…?

Showing this above mentioned photo would ease our pain and would be generally perceived as a gesture of good will. ;D

khurasanminiatures18 Mar 2012 1:54 p.m. PST

One question: since JTFB Felid seems a little bit different then other Felids, will the new Felids will be sculpted by the same sculptor? Nothing wrong with changes, just curiosity…?

Ben sculpted the main Felid line in their typical Carnivoran Hegemony dress and equipment, and as I've said he's now expanding the range.

Iain sculpted the JTFB Felid. Naturally his work will reflect his own style, and the Felid looks a bit different from Ben's. I felt it was more important for all the JTFB to be made by the same person so that they have a cohesiveness to their appearance, as they are an extremely close-knit unit, even though they are made up of scores of different species of alien. That for me trumped the idea of the Felid in the unit being made by the original Felid sculptor.

Same goes for the Garn Flesheater in the third fireteam.

Of course if you don't like the JTFB Felid being called that, he (or she) can always be some other feline alien species! grin
