I do remember a show on the History Channel where real scientists and artists got together and CGI'd some very interesting aliens. Based on planetary environments and other factors … Pretty interesting … No Orks, Wraiths, Klingons, etc. though …

I think he was on to something. Humans wouldn't (or didn't) know first contact had even happened. I don't think even science fiction can conceive of just how diverse and different life forms can be. We as humans are too confined to our own reality to conceive of anything not chemically organic as a life form.

Still, it is fun to speculate.
