colinjallen Hey, what's going on here? You said it was my special day on another thread! Now you are saying it is ? That's not very consistent, is it? People will start to think you posts are nothing but porky pies. |
| Captain Gideon | 01 Apr 2012 8:46 a.m. PST |
this day is all yours and you deserve it .
|
| Grizzlymc | 01 Apr 2012 12:17 p.m. PST |
Now now children, learn to share. April fool's day is big enough for all of you. |
| Captain Gideon | 01 Apr 2012 4:14 p.m. PST |
So do you want to share with Colin on this special day and be ? |
| Grizzlymc | 01 Apr 2012 4:51 p.m. PST |
, if I wanted to share I would need to broaden my circle of acquaintance past Colin.
|
| Captain Gideon | 01 Apr 2012 7:38 p.m. PST |
So you got a small circle huh? |
| Gustav | 01 Apr 2012 8:26 p.m. PST |
*GASP* I nearly asphyxiated on my lunch reading that LOL :) over to you & , bit like shooting fish though. |
| Captain Gideon | 01 Apr 2012 10:12 p.m. PST |
Gustav would you be commenting on what I said to ? And if you are then this is not what you think I meant. |
| 12345678 | 02 Apr 2012 3:37 a.m. PST |
Shooting fish in a barrel! Anyway, I am off to Paris now:). Behave yourselves in my absence:). |
| Gustav | 02 Apr 2012 6:15 a.m. PST |
*deep sigh* *bangs head quietly on table, moaning* Mr Gideon – How can you be thinking what I think I meant? How dare you presume to think what I think! Thinking such things is beyond reason, a crime indeed. I really do think you are not thinking this through otherwise you would really know what I am thinking. So care to elaborate on what you think I think it meant so I know whether I was thinking it or not! I am mean I know what I am thinking but I have no idea what you are thinking that I am thinking. If you follow my thoughts. Must be careful though, too much thinking can rot your brains and Pills nurse ! |
| Captain Gideon | 02 Apr 2012 9:09 a.m. PST |
Gustav why don't you say what you meant and then I can tell you what I meant about what you meant,it's very simple. Oh I hope you did'nt hurt your head when you hit the table but the pills you're getting from the nurse should help you out alot. Also how do you know about too much thinking can rot your brain? Or did you just make that up? |
| Captain Gideon | 02 Apr 2012 6:32 p.m. PST |
Gustav why did you decide to chime in here? |
| Gustav | 02 Apr 2012 7:09 p.m. PST |
*quickly undoes his arm lacings at the back* So many questions – so little time 1) Well it's obvious what you meant. You are being "shapist" being judgemental of a circle. small or not. As a rhomboid I find it disgraceful that ordinary squares like yourself should pour scorn on those with no corners. If you like I can send you some pamphlets from the Circle Anti-Discrimination League. 2) the pills help
a bit. 3) It was my fourth form teacher who said that, not I – personally I think that thinking is a great activity. It's shame that more people do not engage in it. Everyone should be a thinker. I can see that you have the makings of a really great thinker. 4) I assuredly never make anything up! unless I am lying of course. 5) Chime in ? why not – I believe it is a free public forum, unlike those organs of the press that can be found under a certain "Emperor". I just could not help myself from attempting to make witty and cogent posts to match the others here. 6) On post topic. Personally I think that anyone that wants to use a time machine to help a murderous fascist military dictator is a blithering idiot. Whether the fascist military dictator is/was good at his job or not is immaterial. Secondly, if you knew anything about time travel like me – you'd know that you cannot change pivotal focal time points willy nilly. Waterloo is obviously one of those. uh oh – the person with the white uniform says I must go outside for a nice calming walk. bye! |
| Captain Gideon | 02 Apr 2012 8:15 p.m. PST |
Well Gustav at least you answered my question so thanks for that. |
| Grizzlymc | 04 Apr 2012 6:25 a.m. PST |
We are losing ground to the Why do you like toy soldiers thread! |
| 138SquadronRAF | 04 Apr 2012 7:17 a.m. PST |
Wouldn't it be more use to use a time machine to travel back to 1984 and kill George Lucas? |
| Maxshadow | 04 Apr 2012 10:35 p.m. PST |
Capital idea! Though how about stretching back to 1983 and that way we can prevent the birth of the Ewoks as well. |
| Gazzola | 05 Apr 2012 2:48 a.m. PST |
Those who dare to suggest that a time machine should be used to kill George Lucas and prevent the birth of the Ewoks, should be banned for life! Long live the Ewoks! |
| Maxshadow | 05 Apr 2012 3:43 a.m. PST |

Well, here I am back from Paris having bought what seems like Printemps' entire stock of Louis Vuitton bags and this thread has hardly moved on at all! We visited Napoleon's tomb this morning and his ghost said that did actually turn up at Waterloo in a time machine and gave advice; unfortunately, the Emperor followed it! |
| 12345678 | 05 Apr 2012 11:22 a.m. PST |
Ewoks? What are they then? |
| Gazzola | 05 Apr 2012 2:42 p.m. PST |
Ewoks are an elite force of Cossacks that live in trees. They are the only ones that don't like horses and were not impressed by Murat. Wow! Who needs time machines when you can converse with ghosts? |
| 12345678 | 05 Apr 2012 2:59 p.m. PST |
Cossacks in trees? Very odd! Time machines and ghosts are equally ridiculous, and ridiculous was always going to be the theme of this thread;). Sadly, my partner was more impressed with the shopping in Paris than its Napoleonic history, although she did decide that Napoleon's tomb was very impressive, and far less creepy than Chairman Mao's mausoleum:). Berthillon's ice cream and salon de the also made a strong impression:). |
| Gazzola | 06 Apr 2012 5:23 a.m. PST |
colinjallen They're not really Cossacks and they don't live in trees, they were furry
oh never mind, if you don't know now you never will. And the Time machine topic is not ridiculous. They said the same when people talked about flying. Man will nevr fly and all that, so it was foolish to talk about it. Now look at us. The topic is fun and it is interesting to see what people would do, should they have access to one. And as for ghosts, er, you were the one who brought in that 'ridiculous' aspect. Personally, I think it lightened the mood. A happy wargaming to you and spread the word. |
| Grizzlymc | 06 Apr 2012 7:13 a.m. PST |
I can just see, Easyjump, book 3 months in advance and you can get two weeks in 1806 for twenty quid, of course we can't give you the date you are looking for and your return may be delayed and the sandwiches and warm little bottles of wine will be ruinously expensive. Maybe I could whisper in Welly's ear "concentrate at Charlrois, both you and Blucher" Or better yet, "Drop him off into the deeps, Elba is too close" |
| 12345678 | 06 Apr 2012 8:55 a.m. PST |
Physics, dear boy, physics. The flying analogy is ridiculously flawed as the ability to achieve flight was only constrained by human imagination, ingenuity and understanding of physics, as it was clear that flight was achievable as other creatures and even man-made structures could achieve it. Time travel is a different kettle of fish entirely, despite the imaginings of some of the more speculative pseudo-physicists. Achieving time travel in any meaningful sense would involve a violation of core principle of physics. Even if it was achievable, I fear that Grizzly is correct and it would be like my flight to Paris on Monday. However, if it was possible, go back to Corsica 9 months before Napoleon's birth: "Pull out, Carlo; pull out!" |
| Maxshadow | 06 Apr 2012 10:45 p.m. PST |
Sorry guys but I feel your loosing focus on the main intention of this thread. That is to pass the Toy Soldiers thread. |
| carne68 | 06 Apr 2012 11:29 p.m. PST |
Just one small change. 10,000 extra rounds of ammunition and a barrel of flints to major Baring and the 2KGL light. |
| Gazzola | 07 Apr 2012 3:18 p.m. PST |
colinjallen So your point is, because you can see other creatures flying, flying is possible. But because you are unaware of anyone using a time machine, it must not be possible. I prefer to believe that anything is possible. As for going back in time to do what you suggest – that would be rude for two reasons. Firstly, you'd be considered a peeping tom or peeping Colin in your case, and receive suitable punishment. And secondly, this wesbite would disappear. Happy wargaming. |
| 12345678 | 07 Apr 2012 3:24 p.m. PST |
No Gazzola, that was not my point but I did not expect you to get it. |
| USAFpilot | 07 Apr 2012 7:24 p.m. PST |
In the greater scheme of things the battle of Waterloo was irrelevant. Even if Napoleon had won, he would have lost the next big battle or the one after that. He had made too many enemies with the European monarchies. They all wanted him gone. Even if Napoleon was content to live in peace in France for the rest of his life no one trusted him anymore. He had to go. |
| Maxshadow | 07 Apr 2012 11:17 p.m. PST |
I've just decided that a better use of a time machine would be for the banning of Shako cords and thus save hours of frustrating painting in the 20th/21st centuries. |
| Edwulf | 08 Apr 2012 2:34 a.m. PST |
Deffinately I might take a forged order from horse guards to the British Army cira 1808 ordering the removal of lace from campaign jackets. |
| Gazzola | 08 Apr 2012 4:41 a.m. PST |
USAFpilot Good post but no one can say if he would have won the next battle or not. As for the allies, they often changed sides, depending on events, so if Britain had been knocked out of the war and there was possibly no further help from them financially, who knows what may have happened. And sadly, we will never know. But it is fun thinking of what might have been. |
| Gazzola | 08 Apr 2012 4:42 a.m. PST |
colinjallen LOL! Is that the best you can do? |
| 12345678 | 08 Apr 2012 5:14 a.m. PST |
Gazzola, Unlike you, I do not regard this as a ing contest. From your posts on several threads it is apparent that you are only here to argue, insult and attempt to prove your "superiority". Have fun with your life, John. |
| Gazzola | 08 Apr 2012 5:36 a.m. PST |
colinjallen Some people can give it but just can't take it and then they accuse others of doing what they do. Ho hum! But I think . It is just a matter of disagreement, nothing else. But you probably ? Happy Easter anyway. |
| Ivan the Reasonable | 08 Apr 2012 8:54 a.m. PST |
colinjallen 1,340 posts. 12 stifles. Gazzola 1,368 posts. 168 stifles. Says it all really. Matt. |
| Gazzola | 08 Apr 2012 9:14 a.m. PST |
Matt Finish It says I can accept other people's point of view and agree to disagree – other sadly seem unable to do so and simply can't seem to cope with people disagreeing with them. I wonder why that is? Any ideas? But as you point out, it says it all – clever you for spotting that. Well done, have another Easter egg |
| Edwulf | 08 Apr 2012 10:34 a.m. PST |
Or it could mean "I'm quite the annoying rude git". Not that I'm saying this is the case. But that it COULD be. |
| 12345678 | 08 Apr 2012 11:21 a.m. PST |
LOL Edwulf:)) Remember that it is the rest of us who are rude and intolerant, not poor Gazzola, who is a paragon of good behaviour on TMP;). |
| Gazzola | 08 Apr 2012 4:26 p.m. PST |
colinjallen There you go again, taking everything ever so seriously! Lighten up. Honestly, there is no malice or hatred in any of my posts. The whole idea of this thread surely, is to have fun and, at times, mock each others posts, depending on if you wished Napoleon had won at Waterloo or if if you were glad he lost. Quite a few posts are rude and abusive to me, but I don't take them seriously or get angry because of them. People who get angry at such posts should ask themselves why? |
