And I was looking forward to a thoughtful academic discussion of the efficacy of a time machine…

There used to be a time on TMP when you could have a rational discussion about time machines; clearly those days are gone.

You Napoleonics guys sure are a passionate lot; another word comes to mind but for now let's stick to passionate.

I think as an experiment we should post a question on the Ancients tread to see how TMPers would alter the Battle of Thermopylae if they had access to a time machine, and then compare and contrast the tenor of the comments.

It's great. You got a single editor hacking and slashing his way through posts and muzzling deviant user/members with impunity. That's what a quasi-public/private internet forum should be. You gotta love it !

C'mon to think of it, I'm surprised I haven't been dawghoused recently. I'm about due for one.

Is it still relevant at all to post an opinion on how Napoleon could win Waterloo by listening to advice from a Time Traveller? Looks like there has been a Night of the Long Knives going on here!

I would not change anything for the outcome, but at least place over 100 cameras to film the actions from various points, so we can finally end all sort of discussions :-)

I still can't stop irrationally giggling at the idea of "seeing the penguin"

*NJH: I think all relevance to anything disappeared several pages ago. However, allow me to kit bash a couple of posts.

I found the below quote from Napoleon online, somewhere, sometime ago, maybe in some obscure reference on some esoteric blog by some academic in an unacredited institution of slightly higher learning in Elbonia:

"The knowledge of some Time Traveler is nothing compared to my brilliance?"

In other words, it's one thing to travel back in time, but quite another to get a nation's leaders to listen to one's sage advice.

Me: Don't do that. Don't give Grouchy 30% of your army. He will never stay between Wellington and Blucher.

Napoleon: (in French) Take this poorly dressed English idiot over that hill and shoot him as a spy.

Me: Hey! Take your hands off me. Stop!! I'm from the future, I can save your Empire. Where are you taking me?

Napoleon: (in French) Now Grouchy, keep the Prussians from uniting with the British. BANG!! There's one less English idiot in the world. Now do your duty Grouchy.

Just having a bit of fun.

That was realy funny DJCoaltrain thanks.
BTW I think it would have been realy good as the second post. Instead of ten pages this thread would have been maybe six posts. :o)

No way Max..
Napoleon was not the Ogre but a just and humane great leader who would never have abused due process and the law like that.

So the posts would have been here instead of (insert recent thread of choice).
:)

lol. Yes Gustav. I stand corrected! :o)
