I just finished building and painting up one of Ravenstar Studios Fox Walker tanks. Here's a pic and details on the build at my blog.

Good brushwork and it looks cool, but personally nothing says "reduce me to useless junk with a single RPG hit" faster than a walker tank-thing.

Well, I do like some squishy parts in my hard sci fi. :)

It looks great and I like the rest of the stuff on your blog – I've gotten into 15mm sci-fi recently. I'm following now :)

However, imagine trying to hit anything with that gun whilst on the move?!? I suppose thats why its called science fiction…

Great looking tank! Nice brushwork and good design by Ravenstar.

In regards to running and firing, I agree there would be some issues, but think about all the places this tank can go that a normal tank on tracks and wheels can't, as well as the ability to "pop up" from behind cover in a hull down position. There are good and bad points to most designs, the person using the vehicles just needs to use it in a manner that maximizes it's strengths.

Ive got some new legs coming that have wheels attached , so you can motor and shoot.:)
hey its sci-fi , makes it fun/ next i will make grav, wheeled , and track legs all in one.lol
this was a out standing build and paint job , i am always happy to see my models turn out so well , great job Jeff.

Maybe i should have gotten a couple of those while I was at it. Yours looks great.

Samulus and JRacel,
Modern tanks like the M1 Abrams series that I crewed, have gun stablization called stave systems that allow the gun to stay locked on target while the tank is moving at high speed over uneven terrain. Compensating for changes in direction, elevation, and depressions. Being elevatated on legs would actualy give said system more movement flexiblity than a lower profile tank. :)

Very nicely done.

One thing walker detractors often don't note is the ability of a legged anything to potentially kneel or go to a nearly prone position when needed to lower its profile.

Der Krieg Geist, I understand the stabilization since my brother was in armor for years doing a lot of the training at Fort Knox, but I think it would be a little more difficult on the walkers if they were trying to run fast on uneven ground, but likely no worse than humans trying to run and shoot. I think the advantages offered by the legs offsets the disadvantages. Thank you for your insight on the stabilization, I had some of that in mind but failed to articulate what I was thinking.

but I think it would be a little more difficult on the walkers if they were trying to run fast on uneven ground,

If you've figured out how to travel between star systems, you've probably figured out how to make effective stabilizing possible for a legged vehicle. grin

If an M1 can travel over rough terrain while moving 35MPH (?) and track a moving target with it's main game I think it would be a peice of cake for some Near Future/Sci-Fi walker.
Just Saying…

p.s. Nice work.
