The first day of the Battle of Hampton Roads began. Clearly, it was a day of "shock and awe" for the U.S. Navy, losing two otherwise powerful wooden frigates (USS Cumberland and USS Congress) to "The Rebel Monster", namely the CSS Virginia. Below are a couple of websites which either provides more information or links to even more info: link link cssvirginia.org And here is some artwork depicting the ironclad and the damage she did that first day:

Darthfozzywig, I've always been partial to the "noddy" rules that was authored by Andy Callan and published in Miniature Wargames #14. It has nothing but the most essential elements for a quick and "spirited" game. Here they are: link PDF link The rules were written specifically for 1/1200 scale models, but can certainly be mathematically converted to 1/600 scale. |

Looks like fun, Saginaw, thanks! And yes, John, the Mariners Museum is great. I grew up in Virginia Beach and made many trips there and to FT Monroe, etc. Wish I still had my USS Monitor and CSS Virginia models I got there! I used to use the Virginia's ram on eggshells, much to my mom's horror. :) |
