20mm Der Kriegspielers Napoleonics in the old Soldier Shop on Madison Ave NYC in the early 70s.

FN1 & FN2 French Napoleonics by Hinchliffe….one of each @8p each. Even then scale creep was an issue as the guy advancing was far bulkier than the charging figure

25mm Minifigs ECW.

I still have them and add to the collection from time to time. Whilst they lack the character of more recent offerings I still like them and actually prefer the old school 25mm size to 28mm.

£0.20 GBP each back in 1980.

30mm Scruby's.

Back in the late 1960's (68-69) my friend Tom came across an ad in a modeling magazine for Jack Scruby Miniatures. Those were the first. Soon we were painting French and British Napoleonics and using Jack's "Fire and Charge" rules. Tom and I still game on a regular basis and sometimes those old Scruby's still show up. Good friends and great memories -- the best part of the hobby!

Minifig ACW strip figures. $.35 USD per strip in 1976. About 4 strips to a regiment. My biggest buy was 8 strips at GenCon 77 I believe. So I basically had 2 Confederate Regiments, 2 Union, 1 Confederate Black Horse Cav and 2 guns apiece. Finished painting them in 81-82. Even with a full time job, these were a splurge even bought piecemeal. Eventually traded them for about 80 Hinchliffe 25mm ACW unpainted. Wish I hadn't done that.

Britains, 54mm, followed by SAE 20mm, then Scruby's and Stadden's 30mms. Somewhere along the line I had Authenicast 20mm WW2.
