It's a fun time to be in the Alamo City. The San Antonio Living History Association has set-up shop in the Alamo plaza, and will be providing demonstrations and suchlike in period dress all weekend. Here's a list of events: PDF link

Be sure to also check out Mark Lemon's glorious 1/72 scale model of the Alamo at the History Shop, across the street from the Alamo grounds (across the street to the north near the tall Emily Morgan Hotel):

My recommendations for restaurant if you're from out of town is Rosarios, just a few blocks south of La Vallita. Second (less expensive) choice is Casa Rio's on the River Walk. The food court in the mall is always there for those on a budget.

The more somber "Dawn at the Alamo" memorial is always on the 6th: PDF link

Now that's a battleground worth fighting over. Excellent.

I always get a kick out of tourists and their reaction to visting the Alamo. "It's so small!". They need to see this model to understand the true scale of the defense. Hobby Lobby has Imex Alamo figures that would go well with this ;-)
