Hi all,

Title says it all, really. I'm new to the world of historical minis and was looking for some great Komnenian/Late Byzantine, mostly for painting, perhaps for gaming in future. The larger the scale, the better, other than that it would seem 'beggars can't be choosers' as all the Byzantines I find seem to be Justinian or Nikephorian! :s

15mm Outpost might suit you.

Bottom of this page and page 2 have the 11-13 century Byzantines, of course there would be some units from their neighbors too. Pictures of all the figures are there too.

Try Essex in 25+mm.

I used Gripping Beast and Crusader Miniatures for my 28mm Komnenian army. Also in 28mm take a look at the Perry Armenians from the Crusades range. They look like goood candidates for later period Byzantine cavalry.

I don't know whether I should go for 15 or 25/8MM; I'm tempted by Crusaders' foot Emperor. Shame I can't find a mounted Emperor in 15 or 25/8.

For those who collect Post-Manzikert Byzantine armies, what do you use for your Pronoiarioi? I can't find anything that could roughly pass as a Pronoiar.

Check out this 15mm Medieval Byzantine army using Mirliton Russian figures as late Byzantines. Beautiful!

Decided to settle for 28mm: gripping beast and Crusader….here I come! :)

Anyone know of any decent pronoiar models in 28mm?

I used Essex 15mm later Byzantines mixed with earlier thematic types. Plenty of Excellent Cumans and Tucomen horse archers and a wide variety of infantry. Some of the poses, especially of the horse archers are very lively. Toss in some Russians and a few figs from other manufactures and you have a beautiful army with a lot of variety.

I have a mix of GB, Crusader and Magister Militum (Navigator?) for my Byz & Norman cavalry. Infantry is mainly Old Glory, as are the various Asiatic horse archers.

The OG Byzantine, Asiatic and Crusader ranges are pretty good btw.
