link Yes, it's completely absurd. But let's be honest, fellow SF geeks. If somebody made a miniature of one, you'd buy it. |

15mm, please. And a no-joke-gorilla in power armor while we're at it! |

I want miniatures for most of the Tagon's Toughs, including Ennesby and The Tailor, and the holographic avatars of Tagii and Petey. |

I would buy it. I have a weakness for goofy sci fi troopers. |

You have no idea how many times I've found myself staring at the plastic LOTR Mumak from GW*, working through ideas on how to turn it into an armoured sci-fi weapons platform. A trio of them will end up the centerpiece of a sci-fi army one of these days, mark my words.
ooh, I could use it for the SF army I want to build around Matakishi's President-For-Life Kiboko
speaking of which, I need to go place an order. Curse you, Parzival! - Monk * Or the Forgeworld Chaos Mammoth, or Black Tree's Barbarian War Mammoth, or the old Fantasy Lords War Mammoth, or, or, or
But, the Mumak is far and away to most common/likely victim. |

Historifigs does a small selection of bipedal pachys with light armor and a selection of weaponry. Labeled as being for 28mm, they scale nicely as 15mm. They are a bit blobby and rough, but that makes them better fodder for up-armoring. |

Eh? Shlock Mercenary is not really intended to be a "daily joke" comic. Nor is it a serious serial. With a couple other long running webcomics such as Sluggy Freelance, it fits into the "theater of the absurd" niche. The most successful web comics to date have been pretty varied, falling into a broader range than the typical newspaper dailies. Serials with an occasional chuckle are probably the majority. Serious serials, from lightly serious (Wapsi Square, Dreamland Chronicles) to unfunny adventure (The Lydian Option, as one example) are very common, while the joke-a-day side has a lot of failures and short runs. The few exceptions are still rarely "up" to the standards of the newpaper funnies. The web doesn't seem to mind. |
Parzival | 02 Mar 2012 4:02 p.m. PST |
@porfirio: What Farstar said. Schlock Mercenary is humorous in context of the story it tells. It's one of the best continuing adventure comics on the web (a three-time Hugo award nominee, in fact— losing out in all cases to Phil Foglio's magnificent Girl Genius). Go back to the beginning (not for the art! :-P) and follow the various stories. The Teraport War is terrific, as is the origin of the near omniscient AI (well, on a galactic scale) "Emperor" Petey (who looks like a koala bear). And as silly as some of it is, the science is often extremely well thought out, as are the political intrigues and even some of the ethical and philosophical questions the stories raise. Quite an achievement for a daily web comic. It may not always make me laugh, but it always makes me smile
and sometimes makes me think. |

Historifigs 'Blasted Planets' line Pachydon?
Yup, very rough, but nothing I would object to sculpting over. |

Schlock has also 'caused' a 3 volume (so far) SciFi series by John Ringo, set at the first arrival of the Gate in the Sol system. |

Porfiro, try this for a single-point gag. link But Schlock Merc isn't a gag-a-day strip, it's telling a story. |

They're small 25mm figs that would probably look best on the table with 15mm or 20mm humans

"You have no idea how many times I've found myself staring at the plastic LOTR Mumak from GW*, working through ideas on how to turn it into an armoured sci-fi weapons platform." Replace the legs with really long cyber-legs, and hang some plate armor all over it. It'll be -almost- like a Star Wars AT-AT
