I like how they were painted. There's a homespun uniformity to them. Gotta like the basing too !

FireZouave27 Feb 2012 5:59 a.m. PST

They look very natural! That's a high compliment!

This is really inspirational. I'm trying to put together Hood's division in 15mm, I'll definitely be using your work to guide me and to learn from!

Al,
That is a truly magnificent collection and a sterling accomplishment. Once I got past looking at the soldiers (for the 5th time), I noticed your teddy bear fur matts. I am very interested in taking on a similar project and have seen several articles on their construction. I was curious as to how you applied paint to yours – spray or brush.
Again, beautiful figures and I hope you have many years enjoying them.

Amazing and truly inspirational.
Love the drama in the last shot.

Al,

Virginia, where your brigade spent the bulk of the war. The fur terrain concept is relatively new (to me anyway) and I'm pretty jazzed to dive in. I envision making 2'x 2' matts in the same way that folks make terrain boards. I love the look and it would really solve the storage problem that goes with boards. I keep promising myself that I will begin this next project "just as soon as I finish painting…" (fill in the blank).
Anyway, when I see something like what you've done, I think to push the work off the back burner.
Cheers.

George

Holy cow. Great stuff. Damn…

Campaigner102 Apr 2012 9:04 a.m. PST

The fur being used for long grass I think makes for the most realistic ground cover I've seen so far.

When you combine that type of terrain with fantastic, professional level paint jobs like yours, the results are truly magical.

I can't stop looking at those photos.

GREAT STUFF!!

Campaigner102 Apr 2012 9:09 a.m. PST

Man, your use of the tufts of long grass clusters on the skirmish figure bases are PERFECT. You've got them placed so naturally and so elegantly, with the skirmishers using them for cover.

Also, the shade of green you achieved on the ambulance and artillery carriages is…..Ohhhhhh it's SPOT ON.

And your ratio of color variations in the uniforms is just perfect, you nailed the look of a confederate army on every level.

AWSOME!!!! What more is there to say!

What a stunning collection it looks absolutely fantastic, they make a very impressive cohesive force, I can't believe how good it all looks laid out together. That is a collection to be proud of, and for others to aspire too! Thanks for sharing!
