After much deliberation, the Hydra Miniatures staff is pleased to announce the finalists in the "War Rocket Pirate Clan" contest. Contestants were instructed to write a paragraph about their clan of Space Pirates and include a photo of a painted pirate rocket. The winners will have their clan immortalized in the upcoming free Space Pirate PDF. Without further ado, here are the winners:

First Place
Galomba Blackmane and the Nebulion Corsairs
By Gabriel Garcia

picture

Gabe's unique entry blew us away. The Nebulions are a race of Lion-Men who roam the universe in their rockets painted in dazzle-style nebula camouflage. Their symbol is a snarling lion with braided hair and an eye patch. Gabe wins one Space Pirate class 4 and two Space Pirate class 3s.

Second Place
The Void Hawks
By David Williamson ("Laughing Ferret")

picture

David's Void Hawks are expertly painted in classic pirate colors. The Void Hawks are lead by Dirk Black, a disgraced Galacteer turned dread pirate. David is a big fan of War Rocket and even designed some Space Pirate upgrades that will be included in the official Space Pirate rules. David wins one Space Pirate class 4 and one Space Pirate class 3. For more Images of his War Rocket Zenithian and Imperial fleets, check out his blog Laughing Ferret Lab.

Third Place
Jack Hornet's Stinger Squadron
By Robert Richardson

picture

Robert's Stinger Squadron features a band of rogues who defended their homeworld of Hivelar from the Empire of Marduk. Their stunning yellow and black rockets are adorned with a stinger symbol. A new barb is added to the stinger each time a pilot makes a kill—nice touch. Robert wins one Space Pirate class 4.

The Hydra staff would like to thank all contestants for their entries. The Space Pirate PDF rules as well as the Space Pirate class 3 and Space Pirate class 4 models will be available in late March or early April.

#1 looks like it was tagged by gangsters, #3 is just solid yellow. #2 is best, nice highlighting.

Cool stuff! And a worthy winner….each ship will be unique, which I like, that takes some extra effort.

Regards, TC.

Congrats to the winners. Good effort by all involved. Heck, the competition certainly pushed me towards getting over the hump of getting those pirate clan ships painted up and really, inspiration is priceless.

Lion-men pirates, complete with dreads and eye-patches would be great figures! (hint hint)

I like #2 the best as well. I love the logo for #1 however.
