Are there plastic cavalry figures in 28mm for the Zulu war range? Natal Mounted Police? Zikalihi Horse? Frontier Horse etc. I love the Empress Miniatures but they are somewhat expensive and shipping to the US is pretty steep. I hope perhaps someone already makes a nice set that I don't know about or that hopefully Warlord Games or Perry's might do a set in the future. Thanks |

I converted some from Perry ACW cavalry.
But I do not think that I would do it again
it was a lot of work. You only need a few cavalry for the Zulu War and the Empress sculpts are very nice. I bought the officers and dismounted troops from Empress

I'd have thought it very unlikely; viable plastic sets are all about volume, and Zulu war cavalry are simply never going to sell in the required numbers. |

EMpress, which is cooperating with Warlord on the plastic AZW stuff, already has extremely lovely metal cavalry (as you can see from Mick's picture above). The lancers they just released are gorgeous. You only need a half dozen of each unit, may as well go with metal. |

It would be possible for Warlord and Empress to join together to offer a kit using Warlord plastic horses and Empress metal riders. I do not know if Warlord already has a suitable horse at the moment but I am sure that they will have one in the future. The existing Empress riders fit onto the Perry ACW horses. Mick |

Hi Mick, Your conversions of the Perry ACW cavalry look very nice. I had the same idea, and actually have a box of them sitting on my "about to be painted" table, waiting for conversion. I am curious what all you did to convert yours? Thanks,

Dear John, Here are a few WIP pictures. Front showing green stuff work for cartridge strap.
Back showing where sword was cut away and jacket length adjusted with green stuff.

Darn oh well. I was hoping that with Warlord's newly released Warlord cav 17th Lancers for Crimean war, a 17th lancers Zulu range set could be done as well
.just change the heads and body. Mick – very nice work. How did you get the heads or were those from the Perry ACW heads? Essay – Thanks for Age of Glory reference. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and order a few Empress cav figs then. |

The Warlord Crimean War Lancers are metal not plastic, and only a few pence per figure cheaper than the Empress cavalry anyway. |

@Alexander The cowboy hats are from the Perry ACW set. The pith helmets were spares from Wargames Factory British. Warlord's British set also has suitable heads. Mick |

Though not plastic, Old Glory make Lancers, Natal Mounted Police (also dismounted) and Natal Native Horse. link Andrew |

@dom oops..I really thought they were plastic. Oh well. @Andrew thanks yes I'll probably order a few from Old Glory to help fill out the ranks. I'll have to wait on the Empress Miniatures unless I win the lottery or until an NBA team drafts me :-) |
