The Summer Olympics are being held this year in London. I'm not a big fan of the Summer Olympics, the events seem too "ordinary", stuff we did as kids, swimming, running, jumping, baseball, basketball, biking.

I prefer the Winter Olympics; Luge, Bobsled, Ski Jump, things MOST people never get to do…

So what is your favorite Olympics?

A) Summer
B) Winter
C) Meh

Richdknows20 Feb 2012 6:35 p.m. PST

I like either as long as the event is not subjective in its scoring.

CLDecker20 Feb 2012 6:39 p.m. PST

neither

Sundance20 Feb 2012 6:42 p.m. PST

B – lots more fun (IMHO) than the summer ones, though I like some of the summer ones too. Unfortunately, the stupid media has stopped carrying some of the cool stuff, or only shows snippets of it – stuff like whitewater kayaking and judo (or whichever martial art it is).

Florida Tory20 Feb 2012 6:48 p.m. PST

D – both

John the OFM20 Feb 2012 7:08 p.m. PST

Neither.
I HATE the Olympics. Both of them.

galvinm20 Feb 2012 7:11 p.m. PST

Winter, though, I do enjoy all of it.

Both, but if I had to choose, I'd go for the Winter Olympics.

Glengarry 420 Feb 2012 7:48 p.m. PST

We had the Winter olympics here in Vancouver and it was a nightmare, roads closed, wire and walls put up, police everywhere (which I'll grant you prevented any hockey riots), jet fighters overhead, like living in an armed camp, not to mention the constant drumbeat of over the top jingoism and the media screaming at us, telling us how excited and honoured we were to be a host city for months and years on end. Noisey, obnoxious… the best part was seeing Steven Colbert. And generally, no, I couldn't care less about the Olympics.

Lentulus20 Feb 2012 8:04 p.m. PST

Pah. Let the champagne and caviar flow; far away from me. Anyone who wants this in their city and isn't on the gravy train is mad.

UpperCanada20 Feb 2012 8:06 p.m. PST

Hiver.

A) Summer

cfuzwuz20 Feb 2012 11:55 p.m. PST

Summer. I like the track and swimming. My brother was a big high school track star in the late '60s in Oklahoma. Went to a ton of meets all over Okla and Texas. I saw some of the best track stars in Okla history in that 3 year period. Pretty cool to a 8th grader. Not so cool when I was a soph and ran track. Coach only let me run in one meet. I ran the 2 mile at the Mid-State meet in Ok Cty. My 12 min flat got me 15th(out of 18). Well, I didnt finish last!

I ran a 2:24 half mile in practice early in the year. Bog-slow but I noticed 3 Ok State Cowgirls ran slower than that in the 800 meter(8 yds short of half mile) the other day. Lord, I hope they aren't on scholarship!

Winter, definitely. Just can't get into the summer games. I'm not much of a sports buff at all, apart from American football, but for some reason, the winter games suck me in every time. Maybe it's just that they are always in picturesque locations, I like snow and winter, and they are a bit more low-key that the rah-rah-rah commercial jingoism you get in the US over the summer games.

Cerdic21 Feb 2012 12:47 a.m. PST

I live in London. I hate the olympics already.

Winter

And I sick of the 'logo' on sponsorship adverts already!

ochoin deach21 Feb 2012 4:44 a.m. PST

Summer.

Sprints are magic & all running events are good.

I love high jump & the king of field events: pole vault.
Some of the team sports (e.g., field hockey) are great too.

Swimming bores me.

Having been in Sydney for the Olympics: I advise anyone who can go to see ANY event live. It's a once in a life time thing. Amongst others, I saw trampolining!!! Even this travesty of a sport was worthwhile.

Champion athletes transcend what it means to be mortal.

Pictors Studio21 Feb 2012 4:45 a.m. PST

I'm not really a sports fan in general, although women's beach volleyball stills can be very interesting.

Flat Beer and Cold Pizza21 Feb 2012 4:48 a.m. PST

The Winter Olympics, if only for the Hockey.

skinkmasterreturns21 Feb 2012 5:06 a.m. PST

Both, and yes,I do like to watch the curling events.

Yesthatphil21 Feb 2012 6:26 a.m. PST

Much prefer the proper sports of the (proper)summer Olympics (there was no Ice Hockey or Snow Boarding in Ancient Greece).

I am thrilled London got the games and am looking forward to it.

Britain has a culture of moaning and carping – so. inevitably there is a lot of moaning and carping. Even if they gave away gold bars in the street somebody in Blighty would moan about it.

grin Great Summer ahead grin

Both – got tickets for this year :o), unfortunately they're for the tennis :o(. Best bit about the winter olympics is the ski-cross.

Not any more.
