Do you guys put your vehicle decals on before or after you weather the model? My gut says before, but I'm not a modeller and I don't know if the paint will adversely effect the slide transfer. thanks, Dave |

definitely before. I would varnish the model after applying the decals (that'll protect them), then do the weathering, then apply a further varnish. Ian |

Before
unless you want them to look like they were recently refreshed. |

Inevitably I put them on after, but only because I usually forget I was going to add them until after I have subtly shaded, washed tinted and inked my models (or dumped them in Devlan musd and slapped on a few crushed up bits of chalk). I tend to use gloss varnish to provide a nice surface to put them onto, then seal them with gloss again afterwards. Once this is matted down you can happily use any and all weathering on them, with the possible exception of salt and hairspray. G. |

Always before. Ties them in with the model while weathering. |

after the first layer ,but before the rest , Helps blend them in |

Do the shading and highlighting first, then decals, then paint chips, dust, and mud. Unless you really want them to look recently refreshed. |

If I were "doing it right", I would put them on before the weathering. Paint. (Includes camoflage) Dip. Using Minwax to give me shading and a gloss undercoat. The gloss undercoat makes the decal adhere better. Apply decals, using all the voodoo chemicals that make the decal adhere better and shrink on to the ridges. Another coat of glosss on top of the decal to seal it in. Spray with Dullcoat or Flat Clear. Weather and mud. Well, that is the sequence I SHOULD follow, but sometimes deadlines shove the process ahead and steps are omitted or switched

Before At least the way I weather, I find they look funny if you add them after (i.e. too fresh) |

Before, gives a more dirty look to the vehicle. |

Yes
Honestly I do a little of both depending on the nature of the decals. Here's my order of operations: Prep Prime Paint (airbrush) Gloss Wash Highlighting Decals Final weathering Dullcote |

Depends. Back in the day, people used to "preweather" on model aircraft / tanks, then seal, add decals, matt varnish, do final weathering, matt varnish again
Definitely expect to weather post decal application, to one extent of another. |
