How much do know-it-all gamers in your gaming group annoy you? On a scale of 0 (immune) to 10 (get me out of here!). |
Connard Sage | 16 Feb 2012 12:24 p.m. PST |
11 Fortunately we don't have any |
flooglestreet | 16 Feb 2012 12:25 p.m. PST |
10 Everybody else is so ignorant. |
John the OFM | 16 Feb 2012 12:26 p.m. PST |
There can be only one know-it-all in a group. When anyone attempts to contradict me, that bugs the heck out of me. |

10 – One opponent knew all the casualty charts from WRG 6th edition, and used to let you know what you needed to roll on the dice, and your likely chance of getting it. I no longer game against him, as I game for relaxation, not aggravation! Steve J |

What? Like on TMP?Eric As one of my teachers used to say, "The man who knows everything will learn nothing" |
x42brown | 16 Feb 2012 12:48 p.m. PST |
I'm fairly immune say 1. x42 |

9, the young man goes on and on, even trying to flaunt his knowledge to guys who are experts on a given subject |

There used to be this guy named Bill. Well, he

"Those of you who think you know everything are very annoying to those of us who do." I don't recall who coined the phrase but it sums it up nicely! |
darthfozzywig | 16 Feb 2012 1:47 p.m. PST |
If we have one, I'm pretty sure I'm the know-it-all. |
redmist1122 | 16 Feb 2012 1:53 p.m. PST |
Maybe a "1"
those guys don't last very long in our group. P. |

I'm not at all annoyed by people who know a lot and do know what they are talking about, even when they aren't very diplomatic about it. People who don't know what they are talking about and insist on talking anyway can be amusing, I like them OK but they don't usually like me. The only sorts of people who really annoy me are the aggressively ignorant or closed-minded in positions of influence or power and of course the downright vicious. Most people have reasons for their annoying quirks which are more to be pitied than censured. |

Depends, had one know it all in our rpg group, he kept track of the rules, I kept the adventure going
it was a good match. |
John the Greater | 16 Feb 2012 2:20 p.m. PST |
We don't have any with my regular group, but I run across them at conventions all the time. It's always interesting to see how they get frozen out while the rest of us have a good time. So, on 1 to 10, I guess about a bland 4 or 5. |
21eRegt | 16 Feb 2012 2:42 p.m. PST |
7 or 8. Sometimes it actually helps to resolve a question or discussion. |
just visiting | 16 Feb 2012 5:12 p.m. PST |
If the "know it all" is really knowledgeable then his waxing forth can be both enlightening and entertaining. It isn't the talk that annoys me; it is the content, or rather lack thereof. But I can't think of a contemporary annoying "know it all". Everyone I know is modest about all that they know
. |

9 There's a guy in our RPG group
who claims to have OCD
who will begin random information dumps at the slightest provocation. He does know a lot of stuff
but you're just a likely to get a long dissertation about the local Taco Bell as you are some interesting bit of history. He's also the rules minutae/'optimizer' guy
who will lean over your shoulder to 'help' you total up your dice or decide what maneuver to use. Luckily he just got a new job that will probably conflict with our gaming schedule. |

1. Ignore the guy. Once had a game vs a 19 yo janitor who said he was disappointed with how dumb most people were. On the other hand he couldn't name four US presidents. |
Bob in Edmonton | 16 Feb 2012 7:16 p.m. PST |
About an eight; fortunately our group has managed to avoid know-it-alls for he most part; swamping such fellows with decent guys seems to drive them away. |
Wolfprophet | 16 Feb 2012 8:28 p.m. PST |
Lawlz. My group is full of arrogant know-it-alls. Every one of us! But, on the upside, we're all hardly ever wrong anymore on certain topics with all the cross-correcting and fact checking. "Once had a game vs a 19 yo janitor who said he was disappointed with how dumb most people were. On the other hand he couldn't name four US presidents." Memory and intelligence do not go hand in hand. We can know all the matter of a subject, and yet, recall none of it when we need to. I can name at least eight presidents in no particular order off the top of my head, but I can't think of more than three who either weren't completely useless in nearly every sense or didn't contribute to our oncoming downfall. On the other hand, there's also flat out stupidity. If he can't name them because he can't recall, he has a bad memory. If he can't name them because he doesn't know, then lets hope he never has children. "Everyone I know is modest about all that they know
." A wise man is only wise if he understands there are things he does not know. ;) A clever man might seek to learn those things. |

Deep down: 10 Due to teaching middle schoolers: 1 I learned to ignore morons that were full of it. Working in groups of 30 preteens will condition you to dealing with more BS than if you worked at a cattle ranch. |

8 – only concerning one particular player I can remember back when I was in a group. |

None that I know of or have seen. I'm considered a SME with the government and when I an counter someone who "knows" more then me
I smile and agree. |
Grand Duke Natokina | 02 Mar 2012 3:01 p.m. PST |
I just sit back and smirk at such things. Fortunately we don't really have anyone like that. |
Private Matter | 13 Mar 2012 5:38 a.m. PST |
The regular gamers in my current club and almost all the regular gamers in my previous club are/were very nice relaxed people, who tolerate my know-it-all-ness very well. The only time I currently run across obnoxious know-it-all types in when the wander up to the gaming table from the basement and what ever fantasy based card game they are playing that evening. And they annoy the crap out of me so I would have to say an eight or nine. The only reason I don't say a ten is because I am able to maintain enought self-discipline to either ignore them or smile politely. |
John Thomas8 | 22 Mar 2012 8:38 p.m. PST |
Which are more annoying: know-it-alls or farkin' rules lawyers? To me, it's the latter, 'cause they disrupt the game itself. |
ochoin deach | 23 Mar 2012 5:01 p.m. PST |
If I was the know-it-all in my group, would I know that? |

10. TEN. That is a BIG NUMBER ONE-ZERO, TEN, good buddy. |

Yes, we have one in my solo gaming group. See my previous post. |
