Would you give up television, to make more time for painting minis? |

The question is would you give TV up to get even more time to paint. My answer to that is no. |
CPBelt | 16 Feb 2012 10:22 a.m. PST |
The real question is if we would give up the Internet so we had more time to paint. I barely watch TV as it is. |
Shark Six Three Zero | 16 Feb 2012 10:28 a.m. PST |
Yes i would and have many times
..but I also paint and watch TV |
Given up for good | 16 Feb 2012 10:28 a.m. PST |
Yes bu not only for painting – Lot more things to do than just that. |
Frothers Did It And Ran Away | 16 Feb 2012 10:32 a.m. PST |
I barely watch TV as it is. Me either. In fact my own TV hasn't been tuned to any TV channels for about 15 years and is used soley for DVDs. |
Another Account Deleted | 16 Feb 2012 10:32 a.m. PST |
I don't spend that much time only watching TV. As others do, I have it on while I paint or read. If it weren't for the other members of my household, I probably would have already given it up. :) The internet can be another topic all-together
:) |
Dropzonetoe | 16 Feb 2012 10:37 a.m. PST |
We have swapped out cable for Netflix and Hulu in the Dropzone household. We are close to dropping Hulu soon if they don't ramp it up some. I tend to watch shows when I paint so it isn't really an either or for me
Except when I am watching foreign film with subtitles then get gets kind of hard. I have recently tried a few digital books from LivriVox – link to get me ready for the upcoming movie as I was a teen when I first read the series. I did find it less distracting and quite relaxing to do so and might make that more of the background noise in the future. |

I stopped watching television in 1995 and haven't missed it. Plenty of time for reading, painting, planning, researching, etc. |

I turn the tv on maybe once a month ? The stewpid 'puter has become the black hole of time |
zippyfusenet | 16 Feb 2012 10:47 a.m. PST |
Wife watches TV. I'm on the internet. Interactive TV. Gawd have mercy. |
Angel Barracks | 16 Feb 2012 10:58 a.m. PST |
Would you give up television, to make more time for painting minis? No. If I want to paint I paint. If I want to watch TV I will do that. One does not stop me from doing the other. |
GreenMountainBoy | 16 Feb 2012 11:03 a.m. PST |
I already did give up TV. Its awesome- I don't miss it one bit! *NOTE: We use Netflix, and catch the most important shows that way. So I'm not a complete luddite. |
CommanderCarnage | 16 Feb 2012 11:05 a.m. PST |
I paint with the TV on or I'll listen to talk radio via the internet. I don't watch "new" televsion programmig with the exception of sports and that not too often. I value painting more than TV but the internet is another matter. |
nudspinespittle | 16 Feb 2012 11:09 a.m. PST |
CPBelt couldn't have said it better for me. I rarely ever watch TV, but I waste too much time on the internet when I could be painting models. |
PygmaelionAgain | 16 Feb 2012 11:09 a.m. PST |
It's not the TV I'd miss, it's the sitting on the couch with The Mrs. that would be the problem. If I have her sit with me at the painting table, there will be no end of distraction. |
Garand | 16 Feb 2012 11:10 a.m. PST |
I don't watch much TV as it is. Only the news, and occasionally the Military Channel/History Channel(s)/Science Channel. Even with these, TV has become less interesting. Mostly it's there for the kids, who watch cartoons, and the wife. Damon. |

Do DVD's count? I do not watch much TV ( blasted comericals !) but i put in DVD's on a regulatr basis |

No but I am seriously considering giving up on Wargames Forums for more painting time. |
Lentulus | 16 Feb 2012 11:26 a.m. PST |
I doubt that I have watched 2 hours of TV this month, and only one movie. |
epturner | 16 Feb 2012 11:27 a.m. PST |
TMP sucks up more potential painting time for me more than the television. I watch when I paint. Particularly hockey and baseball games. Eric |
MajorB | 16 Feb 2012 11:27 a.m. PST |
We don't have a TV. Haven't ahd one for over 30 years. No loss whatsoever! In fact I've gained by not having to pay for a UK TV License. |
Jovian1 | 16 Feb 2012 11:30 a.m. PST |
I don't have TV now. I only have videos or the internet. Usually I have a bunch of the guys from my gaming group out to my house and we sit and paint together and talk about projects, campaigns, games, scenarios, rules, and painting techniques. In fact, we are going to have paint night tonight. |
Huscarle | 16 Feb 2012 11:32 a.m. PST |
I don't have a TV, although I do pop along to the pub to watch the occasional rugby match. I am guilty of spending too much time on the internet
|
Space Monkey | 16 Feb 2012 11:34 a.m. PST |
These days the only TV I watch is Turner Classic Movies. Everything else is online
or does online count as TV now? |
Ron W DuBray | 16 Feb 2012 11:38 a.m. PST |
I stopped having Cable 7 years ago. Now I only I watch movies and some special streaming shows. Maybe about 3 to 5 hours a week or less. I also do other things at the same time like feed the baby, paint minis, read TMP, cook dinner, etc etc. Like right now I'm watching "The Woodsmith Shop" DVD and typing here and taking care of the baby (mostly keeping her happy and not letting her eat my laptop :) ) |
JSchutt | 16 Feb 2012 11:40 a.m. PST |
I gave TV up long ago. You don't need painting as an excuse to find a better use of your time than TV, DVDs, et al. |
John Leahy | 16 Feb 2012 11:44 a.m. PST |
I'm with some of the other folks here. I have the TV on while I paint. Or I listen to MP3 programs on my computer from the BBC, Librovox, old Time radio, Zombie apocalypse, Pritzker Military podcasts, etc. I'm pretty excited. I just found all 1399 episodes of CBS Radio Mystery Theater available in MP3 format for free on the Internet archive! Oh the joy! Thanks, John |

TV no, streaming netflix yes |
leidang | 16 Feb 2012 12:08 p.m. PST |
I could easily live without tv (although I would need one to watch movies). I'd rather listen to music and paint then watch most of what is on the tube today. |

We cancelled our cable almost three years ago.My daughter is 12 years old,so we have to entertain.Instead classics like "Jersey Shore", we have to watch the obscure shows,oh,maybe you heard of some, "I,Claudius","Winds of War","Shogun","The Boys from the Black" and such.Everything curtoasy of public library ,internet ,"Netflix"and the friends'collections. I do not paint more, but I do read much ,much more than with the old media box. No more TV.Good riddance. |

I paint when I want to paint and watch TV when I want to watch TV, I enjoy both activities. |
flicking wargamer | 16 Feb 2012 1:07 p.m. PST |
I am about to have to. Something has to give in the budget. Not sure how much time it would free up for painting, as like others, I paint while I watch TV. |
John the Greater | 16 Feb 2012 2:08 p.m. PST |
I pretty much gave up on TV in the 1980's. The set serves entirely for watching DVD's. I'm trying to think what I would give up for more mini painting time. Other than the hours of sleep I give up when I need to get ready for a game and I'm short on troops. |
Gungnir | 16 Feb 2012 2:33 p.m. PST |
Haven't had a television for years now, I just watch some stuff via the Internet. |

I give up painting time to watch TV with my wife so the only way to do that is git rid of the wife. So looks like I am sticking to the current schedule
|
Steve64 | 16 Feb 2012 3:02 p.m. PST |
Gave up TV years ago. Gave up driving cars as well. The amount of time (and cash) that gets suddenly freed up from that is pretty cool. |
chuck05 | 16 Feb 2012 3:44 p.m. PST |
I found that when I didnt have cable tv I was waaaaay more productive. Id flip through the 5 or so basic channels and if nothing was on Id go read a book or paint. I might have to look into cancelling the cable again. |

Have not owned a TV since 1992 and through steady discipline have reduced the unpainted lead pile to nearly zero as of December 2011. Having little or no figures to paint meant addressing the long awaited terrain projects to bring the level of terrain features from "nice" to an "oh and ah" level. BTW, as of last month, I have ordered a few more packs of OG15s, so you can breathe a sigh of relief. I now have unpainted lead for the "moment". Cheers, |

Listen to radio while painting (and net surfing)hard to watch tv and paint so have to split time there. |

Already gave up TV. I have everything on DVD or by some other means, so I watch stuff on my computer while painting. I would come back to watching TV if they started putting back on more shows from the 70s, 80s and 90s, before TV started to suck so bad that they had to make "Reality" shows about people who are famous for being famous or some such silly nonsense. |
wolvermonkey | 16 Feb 2012 6:32 p.m. PST |
I don't watch TV at all so I have no problem with it. |
Some other name | 16 Feb 2012 6:53 p.m. PST |
Apart from DVDs and Netflix we dont watch TV. When I paint I usually have Netflix or Hulu running on my computer. If there is a sporting event I want to watch it will have to be on espn3.com or foxsoccer.tv. |
