However, instead of making them so small, do them perhaps 8-10mm tall (about half the height of a 15-18mm human), BUT with very large eyes and feline-like faces . . .

OR . . .

Am I better off trying to convert the faces on a bunch of the Black Hat "Toleros" (which are already 10mm tall)?

I would say that the Tolero are your best bet. They not be exactly Fuzzies, but even without conversions, I'd say they'd do.

If you are looking for that specific cosmetic appearance then it might be best to just sculpt some of your own. As small as they are and pretty much being naked fuzzies with no muscle definition, I don't imagine it'd be too hard.

Waaay back in the day Archive Miniatures made some actual 28mm scale Fuzzies, both with their traditional weapon and with some trade guns… I am happy to report I still have some in my collection… not sure what happened to the moulds, 'though…. evil grin

That would have been in a kinder, gentler climate for stuff where the IP climate wasn't so nasty.

You could probably do a good job gluing hands and feet on chenille sticks(They actually mat down nice when you paint them.) and then adding clay faces. I would look for those little nibbly beads they have for crafts for eyes … Dammit … I have to make these now …

BTW, is the top picture Michael Whelan, too. I recognize the others.

If I remember correctly, the ones Leland is talking about were about 20 or 25mm tall, more than twice as tall as what I'm hoping to see someone try to make.

I think that the cuteness factor (BIG eyes, tiny nose and flowing head hair), combined with very sharp, vicious-looking bladed weapons, would make a formidable impression.

By the way, here are a couple of additional Whelan illustrations:

PS. I guess they were really called the Gashta:

Dan,

I'll go digging, but they're not that tall at all IIRC… they were downright tiny lil' critters compared to the Archive humans and even Starguard 1/72 scale humans…

I think I've still got a few of those Archive "fuzzies" as well--they were/are very small. Leland is spot on, as I recall, they were smaller than my Der Kreigspieler Hobbits, which were about 15-18mm tall (not easy to get to or I'd go and measure both the Fuzzies and the Hobbits!) I don't remember seeing the trade weapons figures--I think I've got the ones with the glaive like weapon…

OK. I just found my quartet of Fuzzies with trade weapons; they're about 15mm tall. I've taken some photos including a comparison shot of one of the Fuzzies with a 28mm WH40KRT Inquisitor and a 15mm Khurasan Miniatures Karkaradine Rifleman (Rifleshark?) to give you an idea of just how they size up one to the other…

Will post pix in my online album before the night is out…

Leland,
Nicely done! The color looks great too.

Guys,
Does the fella on the top row, third from left, look to you like the evil cousin of a Fuzzy?

I guess that the Fuzzy concept is not all that unique . . .

Some vendor…I _think_ it was Archive…used to make a 25mm version of that exact alien, complete with long-hafted blade weapon. I still have a couple somewhere. They were short, for 15mm, but would stand about the same height as a 15mm figure.
