Of possible interest. "- Q1-2 Necron and Tyranid 2nd waves - Q2-3 6th edition with Dark Angels vs Chaos in the boxed set. - Chaos Legions codex ~via multiple sources – said to be the first 6th Edition codex. - Dark Angels codex ~contradictory, with other codices as a possibility in its place (Space Marines or Tau commonly named) - No Eldar in 2012, still much to be done. - Tau are still strong contenders for a full codex release, with many models finished and on ice for months now – but most probably 2013. - Q4 this year will be dominated by the Hobbit so expect Q2 and Q3 to be 40K centric, but don't expect too much. - Then Q1 2013 will be more Hobbit, Q2 2013 may see a new Codex but it's more likely to be wave releases, so if Eldar or Tau were coming I would say Q3. ~With the Hobbit products dominating Q4 thanks to the holiday movie release date, it looks like we will have a compressed 9 month (now 7 month) timeframe for the 6th edition and any other 40k and Fantasy products

Dang, I was hoping for an Eldar and Tau release this year. Given that my other two armies are the Crimson Fists and Imperial Guard, I probably won't be shelling out much for 40K this year other than the stand-alone 6th ed rulebook (not interested in DA or CSM). |
| Mithmee | 13 Feb 2012 11:58 p.m. PST |
Well you do not want Eldar to be the first book done since that will only mean that they will end up being the worst due to Codex creep. |
| basileus66 | 14 Feb 2012 12:17 a.m. PST |
You are wrong, Mithmee. Eldar Codex is one of the oldest right now, and also one of the most competitive gaming-wise. |
| Scott Kursk | 14 Feb 2012 3:15 a.m. PST |
basileus66, it _can_ be the most competitive, it just requires thought, planning, and strategy. So, most people hate the codex. It's so much easier doing point and click with all the other armies. I really hated what they did with the Ogre codex so I am kinda glad to be trying to get rid of my Deathwing army now before they have a chance to sully my favorite codex. yawargame.blogspot.com |

I'm interested in the Hobbit releases
though fearful too because as OMF posted someplace yesterday the dwarves seem a little too gothic

I think a warmer range of colours on any Hobbit range of the dwarf figures should alleviate the 'gothic' feel, which I think is mainly a film affectation by dressing them all in black/dark clothes. (though one of them has an axe embedded in his skull, not sure how you could lighten that one up a bit) |

40K is the "new" EPIC. Also, I say instead of promoting the hated Matt Ward
Mat Ward for the Eldar codex! Today is a day of love so join in the love fest for Mat Ward that is a "tribute to his awesomeness"! link |

Thanks for sharing that thread on Dakka. I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard in between constant giggling like a little girl. |

"Eldar Codex is one of the oldest right now, and also one of the most competitive gaming-wise." Until it runs up against an army that can beat it. What is the standard Eldar List today. Headquarters: Eldrad maybe a Seer Council Elites: Fire Dragons in small units of around 6-8 Troops: Bare minimum 2 choices of usually Dire Avengers mounted in Wave Serpents. Fast Attack: maybe some Jet Bikes Heavy Support: 3 vehicles using Falcons or Fire Prisms. Total number of models in the army is around 36-40 tops. Guardians suck as do Swooping Hawks, Dark Reapers and many more of the models in the army. GW give the Dire Avengers a 18" range because if they were still at 12" no one would ever field them. Eldar are a shot army and need to have everything go their way because if it doesn't they are toast. My Imperial Guard army does not fear them at all because when you field 196 models at 2000 points there is just too much for a Mech Eldar force to handle. I have a sizeable Eldar army so I know their weaknesses. The biggest is that outside of the the Seer Council, Banshees, and Harlequins they very little in the way of Close Combat support. Plus Banshees suffer from their next biggest weakness and that being only Strength 3 in a world of 4 toughness armies. So many players do not use them. If it wasn't for Mech Eldar they would not have an army that could win. |

I have to agree with mithmee. My Eldar force is not so different than above and I haven't used it in years. The biggest difference is my liking of the Fuegan and Avatar models, so it is a very "flame" or melta-centric army. I too have no use for Banshees, Guardians or Hawks. USED to field them all and use them back in 2nd Edition, but they next to uselee now and points sinks because 5th edition 40K is a melee game and none of them can take the hit nor deal out enough punishment to make them worthwhile. But while I would like to see new Eldar, I would prefer the Tau over them first. My Tau force tries to give as good as it gets, but I would be surprised if my overall win percentage is over 40 percent. A LOT has to go well to fight over a draw. That, and a lot of open table space so you can set up overlapping fields of fire doesn't hurt either! For a supposedly technically superior army, they play like the IG with a better armor save and a worse melee advantage. Their "firepower" or technology advantage is not enough to save them from melee armies. Larry |

At least Tau have a strength 5 weapon that has a huge range advantage. Also their CC disability is not all that bad. True against most opponents they are getting hit on 3's but they still hit back on 4's. The list of Eldar models that get little or no use is huge. I blame this on the Force Comp Chart that is built to drive out. 1-2 Headquarters 3 x Elites (doesn't leave a lot of room for your Aspects) 2 x Troops (bare minimum) 3 x Fast Attack 3 x Heavy support This is the one thing that needs to go away in 6th Edition. Because all it has done to the game is make it more Min-Max. Max out on everything other than Troops which you take the bare Minimum. |

I've still got my old 3rd ed Eldar army. With the latest Codex is was almost useless, but with the GW cycle being what it is, maybe it will be competitive again when the new Codex rolls around! |

I'm holding out for ninth edition. |
| Mithmee | 16 Feb 2012 1:06 p.m. PST |
Dan, So agree with this. My nearly all Guardian Army with Aspect Support use to rule the tabletop. But now I would never put them onto the table because they suck that bad. Today it is either Mech Eldar or not play Eldar at all. . |

Nope
no Epic comeback
they want you to fight Epic scale battles with 40K size figures

'"At least Tau have a strength 5 weapon that has a huge range advantage." Until Mat Ward gets a hold of them. Then they'll be the most assault-y army in 40K history with Fire Warriors that have WS4 and Kroot with WS5! Lawlz. |
