With the debut of Citadel Finecast, Games Workshop switched from blister packs to clampacks.

Which do you prefer?

Ebay for older & cheaper models.

Running out of interesting 40K poll topics I see. Okay, I'll bite. Clampacks it is.

I don't see this as a 40K/GW question.

Working for a retailer, I can value add by being able to open a clampack to flip a poorly packed mini, or to provide a customer a closer look at a piece. Also, should a clampack become crushed or cracked, I can repack it into a fresh clampack.

Against this, there is the risk that a shoplifter is going to pop the clampack and steal parts. While shoplifting is its own issue, clampacks aggravate it. Stealing bits and leaving an incomplete piece on the peg risks a future customer purchasing the now incomplete piece and having to return it. Never a good situation.

I'll take the clampack for the value add while trying to remain vigilant against shoplifters.

I prefer clampacks.

@mmessenger, true points, but I have seen the same problem with blisters. Especially when they get old or ripped.

darthfozzywig11 Feb 2012 3:24 p.m. PST

Whichever one is better for mixing paint in.

Ivan DBA11 Feb 2012 3:26 p.m. PST

Neither. I prefer plastic bags, to keep costs down. They are also easier to store when they inevitably languish unpainted for years.

Mooseworks811 Feb 2012 5:19 p.m. PST

Either works for me.

I'd rather buy stuff in clampacks. I still have not been able to justify purchasing them for retailing my own stuff. I use 3x5 cards and plastic bags for most of my stuff. Quick easy and cheap. I don't push thousands of units of retail packaged stuff a month so that changes the numbers a bit. I'd probably prefer clampacks if that was the case.

Spartan games uses them. Each package gets a background paper that depends on the game and a label on the front to tell you what it is. Works for me.

I prefer reusable clampacks. They give you more plastic for conversions and since they are reusable I can use them for storage and for making things more attractive to buyers when I put them in the FLGS auction.

I don't care, as long as my minis don't arrive damaged, it all ends up in the trash eventually.

coryfromMissoula11 Feb 2012 10:32 p.m. PST

Clampacks. Lately I have been reusing them to organize the older parts of my lead pile.

Not something I can be fussed about.

Welded clampacks are a thing of the devil! You need an arsenal of sharp tools & saws to break into one when you get it home, and then half the time it springs open spraying the contents everywhere.

If you take it back (assuming you didn't buy it at a Con) the counter jumper refuses to replace anything because the 'packaging is damaged' – how else are you going to find out if any of the contents are missing or broken?

EagleSixFive12 Feb 2012 6:32 a.m. PST

Neither, they are both crap.

chromedog12 Feb 2012 3:34 p.m. PST

Corvus Belli use clamshells for their minis – so do several others – GW is just a 'johnny-come-lately' to the show.

Just like a lot of other stuff they do.

Brummie Lad12 Feb 2012 4:25 p.m. PST

What the hell is a clampack???

Brummie Lad13 Feb 2012 4:40 a.m. PST

Ah! Thanks.

In response to the question: It bothers me not. As long as the figures are in good condition!
