Excellent stuff! I would love to do the same in my loft but it is chock full of crap
.er, important and sentimental items in storage. Still, maybe some of it could 'disappear'? What kind of budget are we looking at, if you don't mind me asking? |

How are you going to get the beer fridge up there? |
| Caliban | 11 Feb 2012 10:44 a.m. PST |
Steve lives in Northern England, so he won't need a fridge. Just stick the beers outside the skylight or something
The finished loft looks great! Now I want my own space too. |

Great work, Where did you get the Live and Dangerous frame? |
| Battlescale | 11 Feb 2012 11:11 a.m. PST |
Cheers lads! RobH : My Mrs bought me the Live & Dangerous frame a few years ago. It's also got the Johnny The Fox disc in there too. I'm a Massive Thin Lizzy fan!!! Cerdic: The total cost for the loft was just over £600.00 GBP in materials. Probably would have cost a lot more if I'd not done all the work myself. |

I have really enjoyed following this project. Well done Steve and thanks for sharing. I have a cropped down version of 'Scotland Forever' in my wargame room which tells you all you need to know about the size of the room/shoebox. |

Steve, mate, Having just looked through your blog, I noted with interest your post regarding your wife's replacement headlight bulb. "I'm no mechanic as you may have realised and decided that this was a job for our local garage." It's only a pity that you did not adopt that same policy when it came to the work that you have undertaken in your loft. Frankly mate that loft is a death trap, it contravenes every Building Regulation (read "Building Regulation" as "Law of the Land") introduced since the 70's, when catastrophic roof collapse, and fires in loft conversions were a fairly common occurrence. Assuming that you don't have any problems with the structure, it could void your Building Insurance and can lead to all kinds of problems when you come to sell the house. I have work in the building industry for more than 30 years, 20 as a time served joiner and the last 15 as a Building Surveyor, and my advice to you is to isolate the electrical supply and nail the loft hatch shut. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but my conscience would not allow me to say nothing and personally there is no way that I would further increase the load on the roof with any extra weight. One quick phone call to your local Building Control Officer before you started work would have clarified your position and allowed you to make an informed decision, before you started spending money. |
