There were two battles fought at Castella during the Napoleonic Wars. Both are covered very well by Oman.

The first was a Spanish affair and was fought in July 1812. It is covered in Oman Vol V pages 569-570.

The second, more famous one, was fought in April 1813. It is covered in Oman Vol VI pages 275 to 298. There is a very good sketch map on page 275.

My wife and I walked Castella battlefield in 2008 and used Oman Vol VI as a guide. There is an excellent description of the campaign, the battle and the battlefield. We took some photographs which you can find on our blog at

You will find them at label 36

Its a very interesting battlefield to walk, and the castle makes it easy to get your bearings.
