All of you who hearty souls who have painted endless ranks of Austrian and/or pre-Napoleonic French armies (not to mention the others) … What is your opinion?

a. I love painting white uniforms!
b. White, blue, red … they are all the same to me.
c. I hate painting white uniforms!

White is the hardest color to shade…

I'll go with A. I've painted Napoleonic Saxons, Mexicans (certain regiments in white) and New Kingdom Egyptians, and it's easy once you get the hang of it.

My SYW French are among my favorite painted forces. Old Glory 15s with black priming and a three layer technique of grey to ivory to off white. So no, I don't have a problem with white coated armies.

Just started my vitrix Austrians

I under coated white and used foundry 3colour Austrian white and used gw badab black watered down a bit to line around edges with other areas of colour came out well

Just got to finish basing

Got some knight modes storm troopers to do next, needs slight sheen on these not worked this out yet though

So I love painting white at the moment but maybe not later lol

a. Once you've managed a good repeatable result it becomes a pleasure. It's red, blue, green that are a pain.

I love painting white uniforms. It's painting white horses that I find to be the biggest problem.

wrgmr111 Feb 2012 6:10 p.m. PST

A is for Austrian!

Cardinal Hawkwood12 Feb 2012 5:41 a.m. PST

thanks Enry..i think, grey horses aren't much of a problem either..actaully I find black horse a lot more difficult..

SJDonovan12 Feb 2012 4:31 p.m. PST

Come to think of it I can't do black horses either. And black uniforms are a pain. I started on some Brunswickers last year and abandoned painting them because I made such a mess of them.

I love painting white. It's easy to spray paint masses of troops and then paint on the details (and shades). No other color is that convenient.

Of course, I do Indian armies. White is the color for the masses.

That's why I traded my ACW for Austrians. Easy peasy!!!!!!!!!!
