Does that mean I'm of TMP drinking age now? Seriously though
Wow! I'm up to 21 stifles and I have no idea what I did to incur these people's disdain! There must be some REALLY thin skins on here
This begs the question, is there anyway to require a short description of WHY you stifling someone when doing so? I for one would like to know what I did. Perhaps I, and others, will in the future, avoid doing whatever it was we did in the first place, if we actually knew why we were collecting stifles? |

You know how this game works. Here, have another. You will never know who, you will never know why. Now, be a Big Boy and deal with it. |

Amateur There must be some REALLY thin skins on here
Quelle ironie. This begs the question, is there anyway to require a short description of WHY you stifling someone when doing so?I for one would like to know what I did. Perhaps I, and others, will in the future, avoid doing whatever it was we did in the first place, if we actually knew why we were collecting stifles? Grow a thicker skin. I currently have 139 stifles. Am I bothered? No Do I want to know why I was stifled? No Would knowing why I was stifled cause me to moderate my behaviour? No It's a web forum. That discusses playing games with toy soldiers. None of this is going on my CV, so why should I care if 139 anonymous randoms decide they don't want to read any of my drivel? Get over it. |

Perhaps I, and others, will in the future, avoid doing whatever it was we did in the first place, if we actually knew why we were collecting stifles? It will be a cold day in hell before I alter my posting habits, merely to avoid losing a petal off my courtesy flower. |

I was not aware that this was a Jane Austen Appreciation site. Not that there's anything wrong with that! |
| Lentulus | 10 Feb 2012 9:55 a.m. PST |
WHY you stifling someone when doing so? All that happens to you is an integer increments on a page you have to navigate to get to. Not all that important, surely. And would you be wanting an explanation when someone changes his mind and unstifles you? Perhaps I, and others, will in the future, avoid doing whatever it was we did in the first place, If you don't think you are doing anything wrong why should you change just to suit me? I don't recall that I have stifled anyone (at least in the last couple of years) because they offended me. Poor punctuation, difficult sentence structure, and an overall annoying writing style that it hurts to read are more likely to get me to mash the button. |
Doctor X | 10 Feb 2012 10:01 a.m. PST |
There are plenty of gentle flowers who bruise easily that frequent TMP. Why alter your behavior to please those that don't have the mental fortitude to be able to skip over something they don't like? Consider it online Darwinism. Those that can't deal with whatever it is you are saying are removing themselves from the gene pool. |

What Connard and The OFM said. Except that bit about 139 stifles, I've quite a bit less. But I'm younger than they are

"
require a short description of WHY you stifling someone
" This thought came to mind: There's no reason to think/believe that any such descriptions would be true, but
Such a facet would, perhaps, provide both a creative outlet for the composer as well as entertainment for the masses (should they be available publically on a person's profile page
something like a link embedded in the number of stifles? – I know: work for Bill
but think of the increase in hits). Even if the public couldn't see them, it is fun to imagine a hurt soul scrambling/searching for a referenced post that the "why" hinted was the cause of the stifle – of course, the hint would be broad and the entire thing made up, but

Henh. I find I tend to pick up one or two soon after I've taken a cheap shot in an attempt at humor. Someone will LOL and someone else will <plonk> me. I feel kinda bad, because I don't really mean to hurt anyone's feelings. But I have a weakness for cheap shots, that's just the kind of *hole I am. If I rub you that badly wrong, we probably weren't destined to be great friends anyway, so go ahead and push the button. |
John the OFM | 10 Feb 2012 10:41 a.m. PST |
The problem with gweirda's solution is that the reason for stifling would also be a personal attack, leading to a DH sentence of at least 3 days! I think that stifle justifications should be privileged in this case, and the stifler should have immunity for that only. "I stifled you because you are a flaming , and post nothing but !" |
John the OFM | 10 Feb 2012 10:42 a.m. PST |
PHEW I almost evaded the Bleep-o-matic by misspelling . I could have been DHed for that, were it not for the EDIT function! |

How come I can't read any posts on this page? Is anyone out there? Joe Collins |
| Connard Sage | 10 Feb 2012 11:03 a.m. PST |
Ah, the old jokes are the
oldest, dullest and smelliest. I propose a 4 week DHing for anyone who posts "but all I can see is grey boxes", or derivatives thereof on any future thread about stifles. With an extra week for the use of 'gray' rather than 'grey'. Color instead of colour may have some validity, but swapping vowels? That's just contrary. |

Wear 'em as 21 badges of honor. The stiflers are probably d-bags anyway. |

When you broach the topic you fuel the fire. The first was a bit of a surprise. Posting about it and commenting on stifles lead to most of the rest. Occasionally one or more disappear. Presumably someone wants to see what other people are talking about on a post. Ratio is more of an indicator of being obnoxious – having more stifles than posts might be a hint to hang out on another forum. Although at that point you might already have been locked out. P.S. When I just checked it was 25, you have me beat (which might pick me up a couple). |

I know my first ones came after telling some jokes pre-loony bin. After that I was crushed and became despondent and suicidal. Soon I had killed myself and my ghost remains to drive my tormenters nuts! Either that or I just don't give a rodent's posterior!!!! |
| Grizzlymc | 11 Feb 2012 6:00 a.m. PST |
You know, if I could be sure that my ghost would haunt my enemies, suicide would be quite attractive. Alas, I suspect that ghosts are like the tooth fairy and free lunches. |

I stifled him to assuage the guilt I feel for pretending to be him at Historicon. (your Wife says "Hi!" by the way, Crow Bait.) I stifled Sparker on the other hand for never getting his round in, for preferring Stork to Butter and for drinking Swan White. Pat |
