I played my 4th game of Napoleonics using the Waterloo rules from Warhammer Historical last night.
I think that this time we did manage to get all the rules straight and not confuse things too much.
We made a couple of slight adjustments to the rules which were:
1) Give commanders maximum command value of 4 instead of 6
2) Allow the use of 1 TAC point for Cavalry Countercharges
3) Allow the use of 1 TAC point for intercept opportunity charges by Cavalry
4) Ignored the Brigade rules for additional TAC points.
We played the Take and Hold scenario on page 92 of the rulebook with French vs British.
Each side had an Infantry brigade of 5 units of line, 1 of light and 1 foot artillery battery of 2 guns; a cavalry brigade of 2 heavy units of cavalry and a Horse artillery battery; and an unbrigaded unit of hussars.
We played around 8 turns in the evening before the game was called due to snow and whether Keith, my opponent, could drive home or not.
The French (me) had by then secured the Bridge and had a good hold on the Crossroads leaving the woods to the British lights.
It worked well as a game, is easy to play and we had a lot of fun.
The amendment of the command values meant that a couple of units on each side broke (one due to being mauled by French canister fire) which hadn't happened in our previous game where some units kept fighting down to the last company.
The ignoring of the extra TAC points that come with a brigade also meant that units couldn't move, change formation AND fire in one turn which did have some significant results in the game.
Both Keith and I are pretty happy with the rules and are looking to build our existing forces up to be able to play the various Waterloo scenaios in the book.
