Saw them over on LAF and was mightily impressed. Fantastic paint jobs. Love the 'rebel pilot' scheme on the top guy.

Angel Barracks10 Feb 2012 5:50 a.m. PST

Wow that is some very skilled painting.
I remember those figures.

OldGrenadier at work10 Feb 2012 5:54 a.m. PST

Fantastic work on some really nice older figures.

Incredibly nice work! Love the visor on the first one.

Jay Arnold10 Feb 2012 6:33 a.m. PST

I like seeing those old figures with modern techniques. Refreshing. Shows that the designs and sculpting have withstood the test of time.

Spaceman Spiff10 Feb 2012 6:41 a.m. PST

i think i still have that second imperial guard trooper! excellent work!

Ivan DBA10 Feb 2012 7:05 a.m. PST

Excellent work! It's great to see new life breathed into those classic figures.

whill410 Feb 2012 7:08 a.m. PST

Dude! Thats some fancy brushwork. You have some skill about you. Really nice work.

LeadLair7610 Feb 2012 7:11 a.m. PST

Wow those look really nice. I don't think I have ever seen those old figures paintes so well. Really impressive job.

I love painting old Citadel figures from the 80s. The first time around I was terrible at painting and ruined most of them. Now I can paint well enough to do them justice. Not with the same skill as the OP though that is mind boggling good brush skills…

I'm also a fan of new paint meets old minis!

I like the color choices on the first guy. Orange jumpsuits rule! With the white helmet he looks like he could be an X-Wing pilot.

Very nice . The GW sculptors were top notch in this days . Simple but elegant figures . Not all widgets , ribbons , diplomas , skulls , hanging off them .
Your paint work sets them off nicely they are on par with figures produced today .

Crazy awesome!
That shading on the las guns alone is amazing.

Thanks for the comments all. These oldies are great fun to paint. They sometimes need a bit more work cleaning them up but I can live with that. I agree that the simpler designs appeal more than the modern (and not so modern) uber detailed/cluttered sculpts. They paint up so much more quickly and you don't get that sinking feeling after several hours work when you realise you're only half way through the job.

Greg B10 Feb 2012 8:46 a.m. PST

Wow. That is outstanding work.

jpattern210 Feb 2012 8:52 a.m. PST

Beautiful!

Scott Kursk10 Feb 2012 9:02 a.m. PST

I will chime in and say that frankly, I don't like the paint jobs you did on either models.
Nope.
Not up to standard.

I figure I'll try denial of just how amazingly well done they are I'll feel better about my crap painting but it isn't working.

wehrmacht10 Feb 2012 9:19 a.m. PST

Gobsmacked. Brilliant.

Spaceman Spiff10 Feb 2012 11:50 a.m. PST

i have noticed that the "rebel" pilot is wearing an imperial officer's sleeveless uniform? i'd like to hear his story….

Fish10 Feb 2012 12:13 p.m. PST

Amazing stuff.
So beautiful and vibrant colors!

Who wouldäve throught that orange looks so good on IG?
The green visor is also stunning!
Yeah, definately amazing SW vibe there.

Ethics Gradient10 Feb 2012 1:57 p.m. PST

Oh my word! I was about to paint some of my old Imperial Army in honour of the anniversary, but somehow I now feel hopelessly inadequate!

Stunning work!

ordinarybass10 Feb 2012 3:37 p.m. PST

Great Job. Love the old sculpts and your paintjob really brings out the best of them.

Redroom10 Feb 2012 3:53 p.m. PST

really nice

Stone Cold Lead12 Feb 2012 7:55 a.m. PST

Did another guardsman to keep his chum company.

Dang. I have small forces of Tallarns and Praetorians, but I've always been tempted to collect a force of the original Imperial Army. These aren't helping me avoid the temptation. If the plastics were still available, I'd be all over them, with some Ebayed metals to fill out the ranks.

BlackWidowPilot Fezian12 Feb 2012 8:36 p.m. PST

I have my original WH40KRT Imperial Army contingent built around those very troopers, and while I am a fair enough painter, your work is simply stunning.

Bravo, sir!evil grin
