I'm thinking of getting my Kingdom of Jerusalem army under way, but I've run into a problem. I really like Khurasan's miniatures, but I don't feel that the command choices are adequate for my army. So I'm wondering how Legio Heroica's Crusader minis stand up to Khurasan's.

I look at pictures of both, and they both look excellent, but I'm new to 15mm, and can't really tell without having them in my hands. I'm tempted to just buy a set of Khurasan's milites and a command choice from Legio Heroica, but before I make that plunge I would like to know ya'll opinion.

Khurasan's are IMHO not a good mix with Legio Heroica. I like both but the LH figures are heftier.
The LH range includes more figures suitable for the 12th century, so would be a better choice I think for the KoJ, especially if you want to include the military orders. Khurasan's are nice but I think are really best for the very early period.

Swampster's comments are spot on.

With the "dilemna" you have, I'd go full LH for a crusader army, and use the Khurasan figures for Normans (Europe only).

Somehow I read that as Lego Heroica and got very confused.

My only concern with LH is ordering from Italy. But other people haven't had problems, so my qualms are probably for naught.

I have ordered from them (Legio Heroica) in Italy several times and received excellent service and speedy delivery to the U.S. I would not hesitate to order from them again! He even threw in free command packs with my order!!!
On the other hand, while I like Khurasan's figures I got several miscasts and emailed them about this. I was told that they would send me replacements – but I never got them. Later I enquired about getting some extra shields to fit some decals that I purchased for Khurasan miniatures. I got a curt "not possible." Many other companies have gone out of their way to serve the customer. That has not been my experience with Khurasan.

Question about LH: Knights and infantry come with spears, right?

helemt, just to confirm, those are LH in your image, yes?

helmet10110 Feb 2012 3:36 a.m. PST

yes, all of them are LH. Down below, they are all Khurasan's
besides the cataphracts in blue and yellow that are from essex (nice figs by the way)

I too have had very good service from LH.

Would Khurasan's work well for First Crusaders?

Swampster11 Feb 2012 3:56 a.m. PST

They would work, though I've seen it said that lower limb armour was more common – partly down to being a generation later, partly because there were more southerners. Khurasan do a figure with the forward swept helmet which was pretty common. His lamellar arour may also be more suitable for, say, a Sicilian crusader.

They do some good pilgrims too.
