I have, and really enjoy, Colonial Battlefleet, and the fact that it uses hexes brings me back to a familiar comfort level I experienced as a youth playing Battletech and Centurion.

However, I really enjoyed playing Full Thrust on an open table, and this last week I played a fellow's own ruleset which also was hexless.

I imagine I could come up with some pretty easy conversion stuff myself, but I am curious if there are known customs to play hex games on a hexless game mat?

Thanks,
Kealios

It's usually pretty simple. One hex = n inches (whatever is appropriate for your minis and table), and one hex side of facing change = anything up to 60 degrees.

If you use hex bases, firing arcs/shield facing will be relatively simple. If not you'll have to build some templates, but that's pretty easy. You're play group will also have to be a little more flexible to avoid arguments, as there's a fudge-factor in hexless. If someone starts arguing about millimeters, back to hexes! :)
