Just received an order from Musket Miniatures including some of their British Infantry with 'backpacks'. Excellent figures, paint up really well and work seamlessly with my existing PP and Jeff Vallent figures. One question though: these guys have been sculpted with a rolled item strapped to the top of their knapsack, which doesn't appear in any of the references I've seen for the British or Continental armies
. anybody out there in TMP land throw any light on this? |

If it was 19th centuary I would've said a greatcoat but for 18th it's more likely to be a rolled blanket. There is apperently evidence for this in a background figure of soldier in a painting by Beechey of Captain Cowell of the 1st Battalion, Royals. You can see an B&W illustration of the figure mentioned on page 43 in MAA 285, King George's Army 1740-1793,Vol.1. |

Yeah, not really right for this period, but not the end of the world either. It is suppoed to be a blanket roll, I would guess. Just paint it off white or light grey. |
