I've been playing LOTR SBG for a few months. My friend and I are planning a 500 pt skirmish this weekend. I've always loved Moria, and have a 500 pt force built up. question is this. One troll or two. Cave Trolls can pack a nasty punch for 80 pts.I'm using the Goblin Drummers, and a Shamen. Though I'm not sure if i should drop some of the my 32 goblins for another troll or the drummers. advice? ideas?

also, for those who have played Moria, whats a good way to not lose so many quickly due to their low defense?

While it has been a while since I last played point battles, I am generally against fielding shamans. Trolls, captains, drums and spear-goblins seem to be point-effective. (I don't have the new books, so my comments may no longer be valid if points have changed for Moria forces.)

Check out Gobbohero for orthodox Goblin strategy tips…

I don't think you can have one troll too many?

Go for 2 trolls.

Eeeekkk!

LostPict gave me a fright. I recognize one of those trolls. My therapist's work has been set back months.

Here is a nasty 250 point force. (I am guessing at some of the points.)
(1) Troll
(1) Goblin Cpt
(7) Goblin swordsmen w/o shields
(4) Goblin swordsmen with shields
(7) Spear Goblins
(6) Prowlers

Terrain is a major factor for Goblin armies. A ratio of 1 troll to 25 goblins works well in semi-congested areas. Trolls are more valuable in congested terrain. Goblins and/or drums are more valuable in open terrain.

If none of your opponents have archers in open terrain, two trolls can serve as a nice rock-hurling foil until the opponent is forced to charge trolls. (giggle)

I would take 2 trolls unless you expect to fight on a very open field.

How long does a 500pt game last?

chang170109 Feb 2012 4:08 p.m. PST

Depends on how long you take thinking about your moves. an hour or two.

2 trolls always. They are brutal.

Shamans are a pain to game against with their 'fury' ability.

If I could spare the goblins (numbers are good) a second troll is twice the headache for your opponent, who has to choose where to concentrate his effort.

I thought trolls were bad, and then we played a game recently with a Mumak. Bad, bad news…

Inari7, we normally play around a 500 pt game, and they can last around 3 hours if you don't keep focused. If you can minimize the chatter and distractions, you could probably finish in about 2 hours…

Lost Pict,

Where are the Khandish forces?
