Hi all,
Long-time lurker, first time member/poster here. I just bought some cheap vehicles online that seem like they would be great for using as APCs/AFVs with my 28mm sci fi stuff. They are old army man toy vehicles that I guess have been around for a long time, but with a little work I think they would look good with sci fi forces.

I got it here for cheap, where you can see a picture:

My question: does anyone know what real world vehicle if any this this toy is based on?

Thank you.

Nick

PS I am posting to Modern because I figured it is probably a real world and not imagined vehicle.

Oh, wow, I had one of those when I was a kid!

Looks good for AK47 as well….

I've got some of those. It's fairly large, but would probably still work for 28mm I don't think it's based off of any particular real-world vehicle.

A few things about using plastic toy soldier vehicles. If you plan to paint it, you really should pick up some of the Krylon Camo colored spray paints "with Fusion Technology". The "Fusion" paint sprays are made to stick to soft plastics and most any other paint will have a hard time sticking to army-man type plastic.

Also, if you plan to mod them, you'll want to lightly sand the surfaces before gluing and use super glue.

Here's a couple of inspiring links from a guy who made 28mm vehicles out of MPC tracked APC's. Also avaiable at the shop you linked to.

The latest progress is here:

This post has the original vehicle and where he got it:

It looks like some sort of fusion between a French Panhard

looks like the apc from aliens … done on the cheap maybe subject to budget cuts

Definitely a 'bitsa'. Has elements of the Panhard EBr-VTT used by the Portuguese but with fewer axles and a cannon armament.

Thanks for the Link Von Teug. I didn't know of that site. It beings back many memories from when I was a kid :). Robert

Reminds me of WW2 Russian BA 20M updated for the 60's

This thread inspired me to take a shot at the mystery vehicle:

Swapped out the wheels, put on an Old Crow turret, and added some stowage and various bits. It's a big model, but I like it.

That is awesome, Stroblight! I have to get back to work on mine-you've reinspired me!
