I'm looking to model a squad of RVN National Police Field Force circa 1968 in 20mm. The challenge is the headgear and weapons. I'd like most of the squad in berets rather than helmets – this seems a problem for using US troops as proxy. To make it even harder, weapons were M-2 carbines (most commonly), M1 Rifles, BAR, M3 smg, Shotguns, M1919 lmg and the odd M79. A good picture can be found at Osprey MAA 458, plate G3.

Any thoughts?

Honestly the variety of head gear was as varied as the weaponry …Id use Elhiem Mike force packs and a few of the Mike force command packs you could also buy a pack or two of the French Indochina packs and mix them.
or you could ask Matt to send you a few heads and do head swaps.
Don't sweat the M1919 as it was rarely seen in use by the NPFF. (Tet 68 Saigon being the exception).
Id Just use the TO&E in Ambush Valley by AAGs its a winner…Mikey

What I did for 28mm was a head swap for berets and let them have M-16's. The berets and the uniform color was all I really needed to get the image across.

I only did a three man team since I planned to use them as support troops protected by a free world force platoon.

Im using the Elhiem stuff for mine, with the mix of Mike Force, ARVN and Indochina stuff.

Works pretty well to be honest.

My faulty memory tells me Platoon 20 might have some ARVN in beret that might be useful.

I'm having trouble identifying colours for the NPFF camo. I can't see colour too well and would greatly appreciate any suggestions for paints (particularly Vallejo). This seems to be a very good representation.

Thanks all!

RH Models figures for the French in Indo-China- maybe the guys with M1 carbines and bush hats…..I'd also check thru' the VM and VC lists for suitably armed figures as the 'dress codes' weren't rigid!!
