hey all ive been playing a little force on force of late and it seems like it would be awesome for some counter terrorist ops in an airport so i was wondering if anyone could point me in the direcition of some decent 20mm antiterrorist forces with a good range of weapons and also some terrorists. for ct's im looking for sas gsg9? or something of the like and for the terrorists some western european mercs or something similar also the board im going to make will be a 4ft by 4fti is this too small for a jumbo do you think?? |

Figures – Caesar Miniatures do some great stuff in plastic – including SAS in gas masks and a two sets of terrorists (Arabs, Chechens, Somali, Mujahadeen). Orion do Russians (including Spetznaz) and Chechens, and Revell have a wide range of German types, including CT. Size of board – A real life jumbo is around 70m long/60m wingspan so at 1/72, you are looking roughly at 3 foot 3 inches by 2 foot 6 inches, so there goes your board. Differential scales might be useful – keep the people at 1/72, set up the trucks and cars at 1/100, buildings the same or smaller and the planes using the cheap-ish airport model kits (I have a range of Boeing jets around 10-12 inches long as well as a cheap diecast 6 imch? Air Force One – where is a Harrison Ford look alike!). |

in the escape committe clubs collection we have a 1/72 airbus a300, (same as the plane highjacked to entebbe), it is huge, we can only use it on out bigger table, 13x6 ft, and then it is a big plane a jumbo is even bigger. even in 15mm it is going to need a big runway/airport. |

A 737 is ~100 (94-138) feet long and has a wingspan of about the same (93-118 feet). The fuselage is 12 feet in diameter. Call it 18" long, 18" wingspan, and a 2" diameter fueslage. But you said a jumbo, so that's a 747. 231 feet long, 200 foot wingspan, and a cabin width of 20 feet (call it 21 foot outside diameter). 40" long, 33" wingspan, and a 3.75" diameter fuselage. Planes are an awful lot bigger than people want to believe! |

I've got plans to do something similar. I'll create some typical airport buildings and such next, and it will be the players mission to 'liberate' or 'secure' the airport. This happened several times in Iraq. I'm planning on some planes on the tarmac, but smaller ones since the larger (1/72nd scale) 707's, 727's, 747's and 767's are too rare and/or expensive to obtain. I've got a few, private planes, (Cessna, Piper, Bonanza, and etc.) auction as well as some 'older' aircraft such as a Lockheed Constellation auction (I paid about $15 USD for mine) , a Dash-8 auction , some passenger plane form New Ray Toys, and a DC-3. I plan on repainting the Constellation and/or the Dash-8 in the Iraqi Airways colors (white and green). I need to turn one of them into a wreck for the tarmac. The toystores also have some diecast cessna's and such, that are close to 1/72nd scale. For ground equipment, try to find a set like this to get some of the specialized airport vehicles such as the stair truck, food service truck, and tractor with baggage dollies. auction You can also usually find them in the gift shops of your local airport. Matchbox makes some of the food trucks and can be found at your local Walmart, Target and/or Big Lots. Also, the flea market is your friend! That's where I found most of my ground vehicles. I may attemp a scratchbuild of a larger plane. Initially, I think I'd start with a cardboard tube (cut in half lengthwise to acess the cabin), foamcore board for the wings and tail section, and some sort of modified foam cup for the cockpit. so that's a 747. 231 feet long, 200 foot wingspan, and a cabin width of 20 feet (call it 21 foot outside diameter). 40" long, 33" wingspan, and a 3.75" diameter fuselage. A 747/400 is 70.6m long, 64.4m span with an interior cabin width of 6.1 metres. In 1/100 (15mm) that is 706mm (about 28") long with a cabin width of 61mm (about 2"). In 1/87 (20mm) that is 811mm (about 32") long with a cabin width of 70mm (about 2.75") In 1/72 that is 980mm (about 38.5") long with a cabin width of 85mm (about 3.3") You'd probably be better off building a 2'6"-3'6" long interior of the plane to assault. Because of the way basing makes the figures bigger, you'll probably do better going for more like a 4-5 inch fuselage width, to make the aisles big enough to fit the figures in, and go economically on the 1600+ pasenger seats

Maybe I skimmed the above far too quickly, but I am surprised there has been no mention of the Liberation Miniatures range. They have special forces available, and a host of other ranges as well, that would give you some excellent options for various factions, from the 60s until the present day. rhmodels.com |

this should give an idea of the size of a modern airliner:-
the 6x6 mrap is a 20mm gb mastiff, a big truck.
and the airbus a300 is not the biggest plane around. |
