Is anyone out there gaming Blitzkrieg Commander in 15mm ?

What changes (if any) have you made ?

Pete

You do not need to make any changes, play as written. Matt.

Some guys in Canberra are doing that. Only change is to use infantry focused armies.

Cheers,
Johng

NigelM09 Feb 2012 3:03 a.m. PST

No changes for me either.

advocate09 Feb 2012 3:19 a.m. PST

Yes.

No changes.

MajorB09 Feb 2012 3:23 a.m. PST

This is of course unsurprising, since rules are generally not size specific.

stenicplus09 Feb 2012 3:24 a.m. PST

Pete,

We've use 20mm and just changed the distances but as mentioned, there is no real need.

We did because we had access to the Battlegoups database, so it was easy to do as the army list that you print updates all the ranges.

If you like the rules its worth joining the Battlegroups Database.

I really like these rules.Very fast to play, and I am always amazed at the detail that has been squeezed out of the "basic" Warmaster rules. I play in 10mm,but I wouldnt change anything either.

Martin Rapier09 Feb 2012 4:52 a.m. PST

I've only ever played BKC with 15mm stuff! As written, no changes.

Guthroth09 Feb 2012 6:01 a.m. PST

A very consistent answer guys, thanks.

Though I do wonder why if that's the case all the photos in the book are of 1/300 stuff and there is no mention of what scale models to use ?

Cheers,

Quite simply because the author designed the game to be played with 10mm models because that is what he had. Same with the photos.

I must look tonight, my recollection is that they are all 10's. Certainly they were in the 1st edition.

Sane Max09 Feb 2012 6:55 a.m. PST

They were all 10's last time I looked – are you holding the book too far from your face?

Actually I think 10mm was his most used when he first wrote the rules. I believe it states in the intro that it is suitable for all scales 2mm to 28mm (and yes I know they are not scales) A lot of the pictures in the book are of 10mm kit not necessarily the authors either. In a discussion on the BKC forum Pete states he has used 3mm, 6mm, 10mm, 15mm, 20mm & 28mm in the last decade or so.

GoneNow09 Feb 2012 7:35 a.m. PST

When playing 1st edition we started with 6mm (because it was cheap to field lots of tanks), then jumped to 15mm (because several players had FoW armies they were not getting any use out of).

As stated above we didn't change anything rule-wise. But forces tended to be more infantry focused rather then mechanized.

The rules all work fine as is for 15mm. If you have a larger game table, you could consider increasing movement distances and ranges by x1.5; do not change the size of artillery templates.

That's what I do with 1/87. I know a number of 20mm players do the same. Painting up dowels as measuring rods is a big help.

Visually, this just looks better at larger scales. Not so critical at 15mm, but would probably look cool.

I usually use a 3.5' x 7' board, that's what fits best on top of the dining room table with some room to move around it.

AS above,no problems playing in 20mm and a lot of fun actually. You can adjust the distances by one-and-a-half if you like.

Mal Wright Fezian09 Feb 2012 6:18 p.m. PST

No need to change anything. The rules work very well.

Sgt Steiner12 Feb 2012 6:35 a.m. PST

A quirk we use is to half all cm ranges and use result in inches otherwise as is.

IanB340612 Feb 2012 7:11 a.m. PST

We play using fow baseing.. Distances as shown but I suggest a larger table.

Royal Marine20 Feb 2012 11:53 p.m. PST

Large table, use imperial measures – only because it'll look better. Otherwise no rule changes.

XV Brigada22 Feb 2012 6:11 a.m. PST

Used it as is for 10mm SCW on a 12x6ft table. The figures and models are just unit 'markers' after all.

I wouldn't think using them with 15mm was an issue.

Johnny6022 Feb 2012 9:34 a.m. PST

Absolutely no problem with 15mm – just play as written.
