The Facebook page for it has been screaming about this since the Sundance Film Festival (where it's Trailer premiered).

It looks to be a really great Action-Dramedy

Longstrider08 Feb 2012 8:08 p.m. PST

Yes! I'm really excited. The movie itself looks like it should be fun, and looks like it will provide plenty of fodder for gaming ideas.

But if it does well then I hope other projects crowdfunded or opensourced like El Cosmonautica or Artemis Eternal can be successful too.

Thornhammer08 Feb 2012 9:26 p.m. PST

That looks like it could be one of the greatest things since Swiss Cheese.

Grumpy Monkey08 Feb 2012 9:45 p.m. PST

I don't know…Swiss Cheese is pretty great.

John Leahy Sponsoring Member of TMP08 Feb 2012 9:48 p.m. PST

Especially Baby Swiss!

Gunner Dunbar08 Feb 2012 10:10 p.m. PST

Cool, that look awesome, might have to by myself some Eureka Sci Fi Germans.

Ratbone08 Feb 2012 10:22 p.m. PST

Are we talking about the stuff with holes in it or the guys with bent crosses?

McWong7308 Feb 2012 10:33 p.m. PST

That looks so bad, I LOVE it!

tnjrp08 Feb 2012 11:53 p.m. PST

Hmm, wasn't the consensus here as of a month (or two max) ago that IS is all just vapourware..?

Anyway, we don't have to wait for April to see if that is the case as it's supposed to go on the silver screen at Berlinale the day after tomorrow:

I just hope the movie generates some good toys to cannibalize.

Longstrider09 Feb 2012 3:21 a.m. PST

I don't know if it will; it's not a big production so I don't know if they plan to approach or will get approached by merchandising ties.

ScottWashburn Sponsoring Member of TMP09 Feb 2012 5:51 a.m. PST

It looks absolutely TERRIFYING! SHE will be president in 2018???? OMG!
:)

Disturbing bits –
- I can find no indication this film has a US distributor yet.
- One news piece said the US premier will be in March at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas. It will be a midnight showing. soundonsight.org/105383

While I am interested in seeing this film, I will be surprised if I get a chance to see it on a screen at the local multi-plex. If I am lucky, maybe it will be in some small theater in NYC and extremely lucky if I see an ad before it dissappears.

Sorry to be a downer, if anyone else has contrary details I'd love to hear them!

Anyone peak at the store? Perhaps I am behind the times, but I find their choice of merchandise strange…

First item in the store: Iron Sky Intelligent Tooth Brush.

A TOOTHBRUSH! Really? I hope this isn't leading with their strength. 35 euros.

Second item is a yet-to-be-manufactured game for 74 euros. New company Revision Games is producing. They have one game out, Mania!, published in 2010, with mediocre ratings on BGG.

300 euros for the DVD. They send you and empty box to display until the DVD is actually available.

Nice T-Shirts though.

tnjrp09 Feb 2012 6:51 a.m. PST

While I can't fault your lack of enthusiasm about IS mechandise, it's not 300 euros for "the DVD" as in "just the DVD" tho – just in case anybody swoons on reading it that way.

As to if a collector's box containing, among other stuff, a BluRay is worth 300 euros or not, I suppose that's more in the nature of a personal choice.

Me, I'm waiting for a regular edition.

Now THAT is a popcorn movie!

Thornhammer09 Feb 2012 10:31 a.m. PST

I absolutely adore the fact that the defense panel busts out into laughter at the idea of Moon Nazis.

I really hope that's how it happens and it was not just an editing job for the trailer.

Merchandising ties…Iron Sky – The Flamethrower! The kids love this one.

Looks like it could be a lot of fun. I hope it gets wide release, and actually is as good as the trailers make it appear.

Space Nazis! Where's the downside!!

tuscaloosa09 Feb 2012 4:22 p.m. PST

I ordered a T-shirt and mouse pad, and got them after a long wait. They look nice.

The film is not going to do well at the Berlinale, because Germans don't have much of a sense of humor, and especially not about Nazis.

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP09 Feb 2012 4:28 p.m. PST

Im gonna go out on a limb right now and guess that this ends up getting voted one of the top 5 all-time worst films.

Right up there with Plan 9 From Outter Space & Show Girls.

Sargonarhes09 Feb 2012 4:33 p.m. PST

Was that Udo Kier as the Nazi leader?

snodipous09 Feb 2012 5:31 p.m. PST

I'm going to watch the Bleeped text out of this movie.

Of course, I said the same thing about Suckerpunch and we all know how that turned out, don't we.

Somebody wants to see it there all the same since it reportedly sold out faster than any other movie apart from the Sharukh Khan starrer Don.

Yup.

Sargonarhes10 Feb 2012 5:35 a.m. PST

Finally Udo gets to play the role he was born for. I remember those Mercury Cougar commercials where he was looking for a man in a new Mercury Cougar, exactly like that one.

I believe he was also the psychologist in Armageddon.

Alex Reed10 Feb 2012 5:51 a.m. PST

Udo Kier's Wikipedia page has had the "Iron Sky" credit up for a while now too.

PatrickWR12 Feb 2012 2:56 p.m. PST

Is that a President Palin we're seeing in those goofy US govt scenes ?

tnjrp13 Feb 2012 12:51 a.m. PST

I don't think the President's name is ever mentioned…

Some (not so rave) reviews:

From what I read on their FB page, they were really worried about pushing the Humor too far, because their preview in Germany was really tenuous.

They really wanted a preview in Germany, and as such, had to cut a lot of material that probably would have been better left in (in hindsight).

Plus, the script was finished around the middle of the 2008 election, and a lot of the jokes are aimed at the Bush Administration and the McCain/Palin team.

And yes, Pres. Paul is a mix of Palin and Ron/Rand Paul.

I think the movie will do fine (and they will profit enough to be able to fully fund their next venture) when they get the movie into general release.

I mean… They only need to make $20 USDM in order to turn a profit. Most movies in general release tend to do at least 5 times that if they have a horrible release.

flooglestreet13 Feb 2012 4:10 a.m. PST

Well, maybe it got poor reviews, but if you are only going to see one space-nazis-from-the-moon film this year, you should probably pick Iron Sky.

Plan Nein From Outer Space

Alex Reed13 Feb 2012 4:11 a.m. PST

Oh, and yes, the President's name is Mentioned. She is "President Paul" (can't recall first name).

sharps5413 Feb 2012 4:22 a.m. PST

Based on the reviews of the Star Trek spoofs they did I don't have very high hopes for this. That said I'll buy the DVD as nothing else really scratchs this itch…

"They really wanted a preview in Germany, and as such, had to cut a lot of material that probably would have been better left in (in hindsight)."

I wonder if they will include those scenes in the DVD or offer an extended cut?

How much money the movie makes on it's first week and how much profit it will make are two different things. After all David Prowse has yet to be paid for playing Darth Vader in ROTJ. Hollywood has a funny way of accounting among other things.

See here.

Hollywood would just as soon hope people don't know these things, after all once they got you in the door they don't care if you liked it or not they already have your money. The reality is entertainment is the only industry that can sell you a crappy product and get away with it.

Yeah, I want to see this film, but I'll probably end up waiting for it on Netflix. Unless hollywood does more to undermine Netflix's business model.

"Plan Nein From Outer Space"…nice one flooglestreet! grin

essayons714 Feb 2012 12:33 p.m. PST

Looks like it could be funny!

According to none other than the Radio Times (Official BBC listings and commentary magazine in the UK)

link

"A Finnish-made movie about Nazis invading Earth has caused a sensation at this year's Berlin Film Festival, becoming the most talked-about film at the event.

Iron Sky, a B-movie spoof in which a group of Nazis who set up a secret base on the moon at the end of the Second World War plan an assault on the world, was seen by huge crowds when it was screened at the festival.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who were in attendance to promote Jolie's new film, In the Land of Blood and Honey, were among those reported to have seen it.

While Iron Sky has raised eyebrows among attendees who are used to being shown more highbrow fare, its popularity has also been hailed by some commentators as a sign that Germans are making peace with their country's Nazi past.

"It's still a delicate subject here, and you have to be really careful how it's done," said a German Associated Press journalist.

"I was a little bit wary, but actually I think they did the comedy well. The inclusion of so much US satire when there is a presidential election campaign was also holding up a mirror to our time."

Despite the praise, the film's director, Timo Vuorensola, laughed off his work, calling it a "stupid joke".

The film, which stars Udo Kier and makes use of the conspiracy theory that the Nazis perfected flying saucer technology during the Second World War, will open in UK cinemas on Friday 30 March."

Perhaps not as rubbish as some people were predicting. I for one am looking forward to 30th March.

"but actually I think they did the comedy well"

Thats good news. Glad to hear it has a tongue in cheek factor.

U.K.

Just watching the Trailer makes me scared, the thought of Soccer Mom Sarah being president… Gives me goose bumps…

CorSecEng16 Feb 2012 12:25 p.m. PST

I didn't realize they were going the comedy route with it. I saw a few trailers a while back and got a different impression. I was kinda hoping for a more serious movie.

Well as serious as Nazi's from space can be. Looks like they took the campy cult classic route with it…

flooglestreet16 Feb 2012 12:42 p.m. PST

Those Nazis better stay out of my trailer park if they know whats good for 'em. I'm ready YouTube link

I suppose the film makers pretty much made as serious a film of the subject material as they possibly could manage (-:)

Anybody notice the U.S. spacewarship's name? I did.

Alex Reed18 Feb 2012 3:13 a.m. PST

That would be the USS George W Bush.
