American Civil War re-enactment is a big event here in the states. Are there Napoleonic re-enactments in Europe?

Oh yes, and they are very big sometimes. I'd love to be there for the 200th Waterloo reenactment in 2015!

Yep. All over, France, Britain, Germany and Netherlands seem to have large contingents. Russia too. Small but growing groups are in Spain, scandanavia and Italy.

Yes. Look here: link

Biggest re-enactment I ever attended was ACW, the Gettysburg 135th in 1998 with 23,000 re-enactors!

The Napoleonic one in my link above had 4,000, I think.

Numbers reported at European events always seem to vary a great deal, but I've been to two that I'm confident were over 4000. The other two I've had the pleasure to attend all capped the participation for logistical reasons.

Great website that gives a really good idea of what it is like when re-enacting the period. The friendship of the all the people from different countries who love or have a great interest in the period. And men, women and children all involved. I would recommend it to anyone. And I think reenacting is the nearest you can get to experiencing what it may have been like to go to war during the Napoleonic period.

Napoleonic re-enacting seems to be bigger in continental Europe than here in Britain. We seem to go more for WW2, ECW, Medieval/Dark Ages and Roman.
