While not a fan of FoW:WWII, I do enjoy FoW: Vietnam. The flavor of the period seems to be pretty spot on with small numbers of Americans responding to constant ambushes and bobby traps with overwhelming firepower only for the enemy to melt into the jungle. I am looking forward to the new rulebook in, I believe, April. Hopefully, they add VC, LRRPs, Marine, and more vehicles while not unbalancing the system itself. We'll have to wait and see.

Who else plays and wants to chime In?

Bobby traps? Did the VC have something against the Roberts of the world?

I haven't played it yet, but Able Kompanie is trying to organise a couple of games for Gencon this year.
BF wanted us to run it this year, so we will try to have a couple of 4 player demo games similar to , but smaller than, our Stalingrad/Blade Force (now known as Death or Glory for the Afrika Korps) tables. We are going to be learning the rules over the nextcouple of weeks, as we are not very familiar with them, as well as it now being FoW V3 rules.

The problem with LRRPs in the FoW game-scale is that they'd only be a single stand, maybe 2 stands if you had some Vietnamese 'guides' in the team.

That's not usable as a recon element in FoW, you really need ~4-5 stands or 2-3 stands plus a couple vehicles.

We had a blast at your GenCon Stalingrad game. If you run a Vietnam game this year I bet my friends will be up for it.

We have three or four guys that routinely run this at our games day. They also put on games of it at the HMGS East cons as well.

Fun game, as it can be a challenge for the US player if they think all the heavy hitting weapons can win the day for them. Learned this the hard way- how else?- when my Hueys got too close to a large unit of NVA troops, Ak's will bring down helicopters. Though M106's are your friend.

No, but we do have plenty of the miniatures involved In games using Charlie Don't Surf rules. Lloyd did a very nice job with the attack Cobra.

Unless you have back up from Mike Force for a game in the early to mid war periods. Then you can have the normal 6-7ish stands. They should break up vietnam by periods like they did WWII. Equipment changed enough after all…AKs didn't even start showing up in huge numbers until the late 60s. I suppose a single 4 man team or two teams of 3 each of LRRPs could be used as a warrior choice.

I plan on running a Vietnam FOW game at this years Little Wars convention. Hamburger Hill – Firebase Airborne.

The 101st had several batteries of 105mm guns and 81mm mortars on the base. In the game I will have one 105mm Battery and one 81mm platoon. The firebase garrison was one company of infantry. The NVA launched a night attack lead by the K-12 Sapper Battalion, they breached the wire and assaulted some of the bunkers and gun pits before anyone knew they were there. Should make for a great game.

That could be pretty interesting and different…

Let's see here… recon types… maybe borrow the WW2 Spetznaz rule allowing a platoon to get closer to the badguys?

Our group will be running Tet Offensive at NJCON4 and maybe one of the HMGS Cons. We will have Hue City, The Middle Highlands and The Mekong Dleta. I will start posting on this board to get some feed back on our Terrain, Scenario, rules and design. Please let me know if this is not a group that can help me make this game all it can be. Thanks in advance

No, just against London policemen!
