As I stated in a previous thread my oldest sons and I have started a ACW wargaming project. We have a number of 1/72nd plastics we are going to use (in fact we've painted quite a few already). Now I'm looking for manufactures that produce some nice command miniatures and to scale building for the period. I noticed that Musket Miniatures produces some nice 22mm metal stuff and a few buildings. Are there any other companies that could also help us flesh out our armies and battlefields?

For buildings, there are quite a few very reasonably priced HO scale (1/87) plastic building kits from various manufacturers. These are designed for model railroad layouts, but work VERY well with 1/72 scale plastic minis.

A great number of these are ACW period, or are "wild west" types that can be easily modified. Also available are wooden fences, rail fences, stone and wooden bridges and all manner of rock walls trees, etc.

My best advice would be to head over to ebay and check out the HO scale section of the model trains category. You can also find HO scale flex track and ACW period locomotives and cars there. grin

I'm working under the assumption that most 1/72nd stuff is 22-23mm. If that isn't correct please let me know.

I really like the DPC (Dayton Painting Consortium) line of 20mm figs. Their Acw are very nice and dirt cheap. Take a look here:

Thanks,

1/72 is 20mm scale.

I have quite a collection of 1/72 AWi figures. Most of them are plastics and I love how they look and play on the table. But itŽs best to show you:

I used plastics as army builders and for most officers as well. I added Irregular for the rarer troop types like Lights, Highlanders and British Legion. I even used the much maligned Italeri Continental Line which do not look so bad when painted well and in massed units (but are a pain to assemble)as well as the old Airfix figures (oddly still for sale looking brand new and available from some guy in Hong Kong).

I used railways houses, the Pegasus houses and some scratch built paper buildings I have yet to take pictures of.

My scale of choice!

Pijlie, WOW! that collection is stunning, very, very nice. For years I didn't want any part of soft plastics but I'm coming around.

TKindred, I know 20mm is supposed to be 1/72nd I just assumed that the scale creep got plastics as well. 28mm minis were called 25mm for years.
