Skytrex is indeed 1/76th Tim. Not a bad model, but being solid metal it chips just by looking at it…

Why do I base models?

Simple – Protection and storage.

All my models have to travel on an weekly basis to our club, so for storage and transport they live in large plastic boxes.

The plastic bases knock together and save the actual models from damage on the rather rough journey over the Curragh to our club!

So far in five years, I've not had any damage from transporting them thanks to the bases.

I also like the fact that they blend with the figure bases, our club terrain and allow me to get creative and have mini-vignettes on some of them.

So for me, its a practical thing (and they also stop fragile resin trackes getting knocked) and a bit of an artistic thing.

Its not to everyones taste, but it works for me.

Beautiful

As to the bases, my buddy who does FoW bases all his AFVs for that very same reason

Same reason I base all my FOW vehicles and put magnotape under the bases. Transport in a tool chest, no bumping!
