Ok. I'm working on painting an EIR army using mostly Warlord Games miniatures (all the regular foot stuff, aux cavalry are Wargames Factory as are the skirmishing allies) and am probably going to attempt to use waterslide transfers for the first time on this army.

My main question is this. Do I need to paint the primary red color of the shield onto the shields of the legionaries first before applying the transfers or do the transfers have all the color I need for the front of the shield?

The Warlord Legionaries shield decals are full colored. I put mine on a silver base – I had sprayed all the shields silver – for the rim and boss; easier that way. I don't have the Auxillary set yet, but I think those are clear transfers – so you can different colored shield backgrounds. I did add a little black wash around the rims and bosses. Here's what they look like:

Also, you'll need to cut out the boss area of the decals – as well as trim the outside edges. They looked like they were pre-punched, but the first one I tried wasn't. Dean

Thanks. My shields I ended up gluing to the models before priming so they got a grey prime job like the rest of the mini. I'm going to finish the pila and sandals first before moving onto the shields.
