Rick, Huw and myself had a great wargame last week, in the era around WAS/SYW. I cant do a proper after battle report like I usually do because I rely on photographs to job my memory and most just didnt come out.
For Huw it was his first experience with Carnage and Glory II but I could tell he had a great time during the game… and later from the after game chat.
I was Prussian commander and the other two kept me so heavily engaged that its another reason why I couldnt make notes for an AAR.

C&f II really makes the games rattle along. I enjoy that you have to think fast and concentrate on tactics, deployments etc.

I had decided to do a typically Frederick the Great type thing and invade Saxony. Hey! They were always worth a few million thalers in loot!

Trouble was that I didnt expect Ricks Saxons to put up such a stout fight and CERTAINLY DIDNT EXPECT that Huw's Kries Armee troops would behave with heroic stubborness. One of the things about C&G II is that troops can have good days and bad days. For this battle one of my really good Prussian units had a very bad day and performed poorly, while three of the four Kries Battalions present behaved beyond all expectations. Hell…even the Wurttemberg cavalry helping them were magnificent on the night!

Eventually the Prussians did prevail, but at the end the rules declared it only a Pyrric victory for me.

Something that had us amazed was the number of Generals that bit the dust. We are used to losing one or two in a game, sometimes none at all, but in the close fighting we engaged in FIVE Prussian and FOUR Saxon/Kries Generals bit the dust. Not all were fatal casualties. Three of mine and two of theirs were. In addition there were several that were temporarily disabled due to being thrown from their horse and having to recover. Of all the games we have played that one will have to go down as 'The Night of the Dead Generals'.

There is a large battle laid out for next week, so I will try to record that one properly and make a full report.

You mean Kreis army.
pronunciation.
"ei" = eye
"ie" = ee
My apologies for being a pedant of the worst kind.
English speakers seem to get this wrong so often due to our inconsistent spelling rules.
