Okay, sorry for the stupid title, but I need some advice on glue. I have just ordered my very first 1/300 WWI airplanes from Heroics and Ros. What is the best glue for getting the suckers to stay together? And how much pain and anguish will I have to go through to get them put together? I have a couple of DH2s, along with a Voisin 5, in the mix, and I feel evil things afoot from the pushers. Any advice? |

I used a gap filling super glue with accelerator. Gives you time to position then lock it in with the kicker. That was before Wings of War started selling ready assembled and painted planes. Not those exact models, but certainly convenient. |

Texas Jack Many moons ago when I did WWI in 300th scale, I used to drill the holes throught eh wings of both top and bottom. I then put the struts through the holes with super glue Gel. Once dried I carefully filed the excess part of the struts level with teh wings easier than trying to cut the struts to the right size. Let them dry for a day or 2 before filing them to give the glue to set. MH :-) |

@ Mr Elmo: I thought about the WoW line, as I have the game, but 1/144 is just to pricey for what is, for me, a sexy thing on the side rather than a serious era. Thanks for the advice though! |

Thanks Monkey Hanger, that sounds like a good way to eliminate a lot of trouble. Plus I get to use the drill, which is always great! |

I replace the (squishy) white metal struts with brass wire (.020", iirc). I also replace the booms on the pushers with brass: fiddly, but the result is something that will stand up to a modest amount of heavy-handedness on the table
Like MH, I drill, but only through-holes on the lower wing, and then a blind-hole in the upper I then insert the wire from the bottom and clip off the excess. If you'd like to discuss further (and not bore the masses), you can send me an email: gweirda at yahoo dot com. PS- using accelerator is handy, but produces a weaker joint.

I just use superglue gel and haven't had a problem. |

Well I finally got the damn things together, thank God! And also thanks to everyone here for the help, especially to gweirda, who gave me a lot of email help. Actually, it wasnīt as bad as I had feared. I started with Eindekkers and worked my way up. What I really hated was the landing gear- it NEVER went well, no matter what configuration, and I always ended up with all matter of hardware and parts superglued to my fingers. The struts were no problem at all, mainly because I followed the advice here and ditched the flimsy struts that came with the model. I replaced them with wire and it worked out great. I saved the pushers for last, and found the Voisin to be the easiest of the bunch, and the DH2īs quite okay. The only problem was one pack was missing the booms, a rather necessary part, and so production stopped until Andy at Heroics and Ros dispatched the replacement parts. He did so very quickly, so a thumbs up to him. Now I have the magnets from Domīs Decals attached, and the planes look quite cool "flying" over my work table. So thanks again everyone, I appreciate the help! |
