I had the TFL Rif War guide by Richard Baber, along with a heap of other .pdf files on a thumb drive which recently stopped working. I'd started doing this in 28mm but had thought about 20mm instead to do larger actions, hence I found out the TD was kaput..I'd printed out some of the scenarios which interested me and all that but not the whole guide. So naturally the bit I wanted to look at was not printed
. I'm after the list of figures Richard suggested for 20mm. I remember Bandera, Blitz and BUM being mentioned along with Airfix and Irregular but can't remember exactly which poses/figures he suggested from the ranges for the protagonists. If anyone could enlighten me it would be appreciated, cheers Jon. |

I believe one type of figure you could use are the Spanish Foreign Legion soldiers. I don't have that specific list that you've mentioned, but the SFL's uniform didn't change all that much between the Rif War and the Spanish Civil War. I'm curious, though, if any of those manufacturers that you've listed make a legionnaire in their peculiar chambergo, which was a wide-brimmed, floppy sun hat? Along with the isabelino (side cap), these were the only two types of headgear seen in Morocco. Good luck, Jon. |

Didn't the SFL also use sun helmets? This is a neat coincidence, as I just got interested in this period myself. No figs bought specifically for it, just reading right now. However, it seems like you could get away with a lot of typical desert stuff for starters, to see if you liked the period: Arabs in flowing robes, Europeans in khaki, I believe that the FFL served in the Rif War too. |

No sun helmets with La Legion, although the Penninsula Army were issued with them for a while (not popular with the troops). The FFL were certainly in Morocco and involved in the later stages of the war once the rebellion spread south into the French Zone. Easy to get Legionnaires in sun hats, simply head-swop them with ACW Confederates :-) |

Didn't the SFL also use sun helmets? According to Steven's Balagan website, the SFL wore either the isabelino or chambergo in the field. Officers would either wear a peaked cap or a gorra de cuartel, which was a type of fore-and-aft cap. Much more detailed information can be found at the following link: link |
