I am interested in learning what brand and name of green others used for the cloaks, etc. of the Riders of Rohan in Lord of the Rings. From the movie it appears to be a fairly bright green with little brown in it???

Thanks,

Terry

Kelly Green or Hunter Green

I use GW Dark Angels for the Royal Guard and Catachan Green for the Riders of Rohan, both with a heavy dry-brush of Bleached Bone to give them some dirt:

Given the number I have painted, I occasionally throw in a Camo Green or a dark red, gray or brown.

PS Here is my recipe:

- Prime with Krylon gray or black
- Undercoat metal bits chaos black (if needed)
- Drybrush metal bits with GW Chainmail or Boltgun
- Paint Cape with GW Catachan Green, GW Dark Angels Green, or Vallejo Russian Uniform – highlight with GW Bleached Bone mixes with the Green and GW Chaos Black mixed with Green along edges where the cape meets the body.
- Paint shield back GW Scorched Brown and front of shield GW Scorched Brown, GW Catachan Green, or GW Dark Angels Green
- Paint paint shield symobls contrasting color – GW Skull White, GW Terra Cotta, GW Catachan Green, GW Burnished Gold, GW Chainmail
- Paint leather and tunic bits with one of the following GW Terra Cotta, GW Bestial Brown, GW Dark Flesh, GW Vermin Brown, GW Scorched Brown, GW Desert Yellow
- Paint face and hands Vallejo Flesh and wash with GW Flesh Wash
- Paint Helmet leather with GW Terra Cotta
- Paint Helmet metal with GW Chainmail and highlight with GW Burnished Gold or GW Mithril Silver
- Paint hair GW Bleached Bone, GW Desert Yellow, or GW Vermin Brown
- Paint wooden Spear, Axe, & Bow bits GW Scorched Brown and Metal bits GW Chainmail
- Lightly drybrush entire model with Bleached Bone – pay particular attention to leather gloves, leggings, armor, folds in cloth, cape, shield, and hafts.
- Protective coat with Krylpn Matt spray finish and then Testors Dull Cote

Do those horses have blue hooves?

Riders of Rohan would not accept you in their ranks if the shade of your cloak is wrong. Is this a serious question?

No,its not a serious question. Its just a question. Go back under your bridge and give the guy a break.

I would use several shades of green-brown. No mass of men coming from a large realm to a muster are going to have a particular "uniform" green. Then there is fading to take into account….

I don't adhere to any fixed shade of green. In fact, I try to make mine appear like a seasoned, veteran band. Colors include greens, blues, grays, ochres and browns. I also swap heads as often as I can to mix in models without helmets and to emphasize the individualism of the warriors.

LostPict's are very nice too.

Thanks all, I was looking for a basic shade of green to use and figure for the responses a brighter shade like hunter or emerald green will work, and then with shading and weathering I can achieve a varied look. I'll probaby go with Vallejo German Camo Light Green 833 or possibly Park Green 969 for the base color.
