I happened to see this on the Daily Heil while my gf was reading it this evening. I mean I saw it over her shoulder. Apparently one of Thomas Edison's proteges was in Paris in the 1880s and got a chance to record Bismarck and Moltke speaking. Its the only spoken recording of Bismark (he doesn't sound like what you'd imagine
) and the recording of Molke is the only recording of the voice of anyone born in the 18th century (1800). Pretty interesting

The recordings were just released to the public. it is really interesting. I suppose the more interesting one is Moltke- German as spoken by someone who grew up when Napoleon was alive sounds very similar to German spoken
maybe not today
. but at least up to World War Two
