I am working on my Brits for Northwest Europe 44-45. From this earlier discussion TMP link and research think will go with the Khaki Green (dark)3.

Now, the obvious question, which vallejo paint most closely matchs this color?

Thanks

I have used their green-grey, but I game in 10mm so might be out depending on scale.

Mick;

Your first link is to your 2008 guide while clicking on the British Uniforms in the second leads to the revised 2010 guide which includes a discussion of the webbing not in the 2008 guide as well as a link to the blanco site. It is clear from that site that the KG 3 is much darker green then the one in your original guide and thats part of what started my search.

Appears almost an OD color on the blanco site.

As discussed in the earlier thread, the first thing thrown away in the field was Blanco. The vast majority of webbing therefre reverted to 'au naturel' – a greenish yellow-ochre.

But if you are landing on Sword beach, the RSM might have a fit if your webbing was knaked.

So 886 Green-Grey or perhaps 988 khaki?

Dear Marc,

I had not realised that the old and new versios were both on the Artizan website. I will try to get this corrected.

"Appears almost an OD color on the blanco site"

It doesn't come out that way when you put it on, even fairly thick KG3 (two coats) ends up about the same tone as the khaki of the battledress. It is certainly darker than unblancoed webbing or the earlier war mid greeny shade, but it isn't as dark as the pre-dyed 44 pattern or 58 pattern webbing. It fades to a sort of washed out greeny brownish shade.

As RMD says, in the field re-blancoing was the least of any soldiers worries, but in NWE it does appear to have been the most prevalent issued colour and in some photos appears to have been applied so heavily that the webbing is somewhat darker than the BD. In others, the webbing looks quite light so it is probably quite faded.

I always paint my guys in unblancoed webbing as it looks smarter.

Many thanks. So what color exactly do you use Martin?

Folks have been a great help here as I have embarked on my first UK forces both infantry and armor.

My recipe is a bit lengthy, but I use a base of Russian Uniform (Vallejo), a wash of Devlan Mud (Citadel), first highlight Green Grey (Vallejo), and final highlight of Webbing Green (Derivan) which is quite a light colour.
Results can be seen on my blog:

Hope this gives some help.

Cheers,
jacksarge.
