I have been looking constantly at craft stores for plastic plants that resemble corn and I've even looked online at the manufacturers sites to see if they had anything. I've seen all the different ways to make corn and though they work better than nothing, I'm not happy with them and I want realism.
I'm wondering, with all the manufacturers that make these fake plants for flower arrangements and aquariums, why can't someone make a corn stalk for us wargamers? That would be a very affordable for us to have more realistic corn. Maybe if a bunch of us here make suggestions to these manufacturers? What do you think?

For 15mm I use cut up "Grass" welcome mat.

I was going to send a picture. But I can't figure out to insert it. I will have to search the archives on how to do it.

I think they would ignore you because the market is miniscule.

Old artificial Christmas tree limbs and wreaths cut to size and drybrushed also work fine.

Musket Miniatures made (still makes?) a nice cornfield and trampled corn field.

If you like this cornfield

picture

you might want to know that it can be bought in petstores as a kind of doormat for catlitter boxes. It sells in grey so you have to spraypaint it matt green.

Yes, we (Musket Miniatures) make corn fields. The bases are either cast plastic resin (4 inches by 6 inches) or metal strips (for wargame pass throughs). The corn stalks are individual metal. Check our website under the Rustic Rails heading. We make the corn stalks in 10, 15 and 20mm sizes. We also make a cast resin trampled corn field (15-20mm). Plus, a wide variety of other scenic items including fences, bridges, etc. musketminiatures.com

You can cut christmas wreaths to size and they're good enough. But you can also untwist some of the wire at the top, straighten them up and paint them yellow for extra realism.

I already have the grass mats. I use them butI don't like them. The christmas tree limbs don't look too bad, but still not satisfied. The Busch cornfields look pretty nice. I'll have to check them out. Musket miniatures looks okay, but not sure about the metal stalks.
Scenicexpress has some nice stuff but no corn. I think I will try the Busch cornfields first, but I'm still thinking about the plastic plant companies! I may make some inquiries. Thank you all for your suggestions!

Scenic express does have corn in various styles and scales. Search for "corn" on their site. Here is just one example:

73emgee, I looked all over but didn't see them listed. They look quite nice. I'll try them. Thank you!

So..which rail road scale should one get for 28mm?

A Twiningham08 Feb 2012 10:04 a.m. PST

I believe O scale, but the product listing for the O scale corn at the scenic express link above does not say how much you get with that one. The HO corn is 1" high, so it might not look too bad.
